The Ritual and Its Weight

Chandra rules the mind. In Vedic astrology the Moon governs manas — thought, memory, mood, sleep, the emotional weather you wake up inside. It also signifies the mother, water, milk, and the soft receptive side of a life. When Chandra sits weakened, eclipsed, hemmed between malefics, or runs a difficult dasha, the tradition reads it in the mind first: sleep that will not come, decisions that will not settle, a heart that swings without cause. The Chandra Homa is the fire rite prescribed for exactly this condition — a chandra shanti homam offered to cool, steady and strengthen the Moon in your horoscope.

The homa is worked around the Chandra Gayatri and the Vedic Soma suktas, with white offerings the Moon is said to love — rice, milk, ghee, white flowers, palasha samidha. Sixty-four offerings, or a hundred and eight, or the count your chart calls for, each sealed with svaha into the fire. Priests at our Yagna Ashram perform the chandra homam in your name and gotra while you watch the flame live from wherever you are. This is a Standard-tier planetary rite; it is not the Devi-centred chandi homam or its chandi homam 13 chapters recitation, though searchers often reach for one name while meaning the other. Here the invocation is to Soma, the Moon god, alone.

ॐ पद्मध्वजाय विद्महे हेम रूपाय धीमहि । तन्नो सोमः प्रचोदयात् ॥ ॐ श्रां श्रीं श्रौं सः चन्द्रमसे नमः ॥ We meditate upon the one whose banner bears the lotus, the one of golden form — may Soma, the Moon, illumine and impel our minds; salutations to Chandra.

Why Devotees Book This

Devotees turn to the Chandra Homa when the Moon in their chart is under pressure. Tradition prescribes the rite for these purposes.

Peace of mind

The homa is offered to cool an agitated manas — the tradition's first remedy when thought races and rest will not hold.

Steadier sleep and rhythm

Chandra governs the tides of the body. Devotees book this rite when nights have grown broken and the daily rhythm feels unmoored.

For an afflicted Moon in the chart

Prescribed when Chandra is debilitated in Vrischika, combust, papakartari, in Kemadruma yoga, or running an unfavourable Chandra dasha or antardasha.

Blessings for the mother

The Moon is the karaka of the mother. Families offer the homa in her name, for her wellbeing and for the bond between mother and child.

Emotional balance in relationships

A steady Moon is said to soften how you receive others. The rite is taken up when household warmth and marital ease need strengthening.

Strength for a benefic Moon

Not only for affliction. Where Chandra is already well placed, the homa is offered to raise its good effects — intuition, memory, gentleness, public warmth.

Sacred timing

The most auspicious days for a Chandra Homa

The Chandra Homa is timed to the Moon's own hours.

Monday (Somavara)

The Moon's weekday, and the standard choice for chandra homam. Chandra hora on a Monday morning is held to be the strongest window.

Rohini, Hasta and Shravana

The three nakshatras ruled by Chandra. A homa performed on the devotee's own Rohini, Hasta or Shravana day carries particular weight.

Purnima and Shukla paksha

The waxing fortnight and the full moon, when Chandra is at full strength. Devotees seeking to build the Moon's benefic effects prefer these days.

Start of Chandra dasha or bhukti

Traditionally taken up at the opening of a Chandra mahadasha or antardasha, or during a transit of the Moon over a sensitive point in the chart.

You do not need to wait for one of these days. Whenever you book, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart — a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. If you would like the homa on one of the days above, tell us at checkout and we will fix the muhurta within it.

Every package, and the 48-day option

What you receive

The sealing of the Chandra Yantra

The Chandra Yantra is consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. When your homa concludes, it is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which those energies are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — and up to four family members if you wish. No one else is named.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request an unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Chandra Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

Yantra Pujas inside our consecrated sanctum

48-Day Anushthan (optional) — daily pujas for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches. Performed in our consecrated sanctum at the Yagna Ashram.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and any family members you add, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link, which does not appear on our channel or in search, though anyone who has the link can watch it and share it.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

After it arrives

How to wear your energised Chandra Yantra

01

Your auspicious time to wear it

Wear it for the first time on a Monday, between 6.30 and 7.30 in the morning. Bathe first, place the yantra on your pooja altar and offer your prayers, then wear it around your neck or your waist, on a red or black thread or a silver chain.

02

At a funeral

Take the yantra off before you attend a funeral.

03

Purify the amulet

Whenever the yantra has been taken off, or if it was worn at a funeral, dip it in raw milk or Ganga jal, show it incense, dhoop or attar (perfume), and then wear it again.

04

Keep the energy intact

You may repeat this energising once a week or once a month.

Who is invoked

Chandra

Second among the Navagrahas, the Moon god rides a chariot drawn by ten white horses, or by antelopes, holding a mace and a lotus, his body pale as curd and his light cool rather than burning. The Vedas call him Soma, the shining draught of the sacrifice; the Puranas call him lord of plants, waters and the fortnight's waxing and waning. Astrology gives him manas — the mind, memory, mood and sleep — along with the mother, milk and all that is soft and receptive in a life. He is husband to the twenty-seven nakshatras, and his own light rises and falls with them. Devotees turn to him when inner weather grows unsteady, when thought will not settle, and when the gentler side of life needs nourishing.

In this homa that grace is invoked through fire, with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

The Chandra Homa, also written chandra homam, is a Vedic fire ritual offered to Chandra — Soma, the Moon god who rules the mind, the emotions, the waters and the mother. Priests invoke him in a consecrated fire with the Chandra Gayatri and Soma suktas, and feed the flame with white offerings: rice, milk, ghee, palasha wood, white flowers. Its significance in jyotisha is direct. The Moon is manas itself, so when Chandra is afflicted in a horoscope the disturbance is read in thought, sleep and mood before anywhere else. This chandra shanti homam is the classical remedial rite for that condition, and equally a way to strengthen a Moon that is already well placed.
Tradition prescribes the Chandra Homa for peace of mind and emotional steadiness, for restful sleep and a settled daily rhythm, for the wellbeing of the mother, and for warmth and harmony in the home. Where Chandra is debilitated, combust, hemmed by malefics, or running a difficult dasha, the rite is offered as shanti — pacification. Where Chandra is benefic, the same homa is offered to raise its gifts: memory, intuition, gentleness of speech, public goodwill. The homa is a devotional offering, not a guarantee of any outcome; devotees undertake it as the tradition prescribes, alongside whatever practical or professional care their situation needs.
Anyone whose horoscope shows the Moon under strain may take it up — Chandra in the sign of debilitation, closely conjunct the Sun, placed between malefics, afflicted by Rahu or Ketu, or in Kemadruma yoga. It is also taken up at the start of a Chandra mahadasha or antardasha. Beyond the chart, devotees book it during periods of mental unrest, disturbed sleep, or emotional exhaustion, and families offer it in the name of a mother whose health or peace they hold in prayer. You do not perform it yourself. Qualified priests perform the Chandra Homa on your behalf at our Yagna Ashram, in your name, gotra and nakshatra.
Monday, the Moon's own weekday, is the standard choice, with the Chandra hora in the morning considered strongest. The nakshatras ruled by Chandra — Rohini, Hasta and Shravana — are especially favoured, as is Purnima and the waxing Shukla paksha, when the Moon is gaining light. Many devotees also fix the homa at the opening of a Chandra dasha or bhukti. Share your birth date, time and place at booking, and our priests will set the muhurat against your chart and the day's panchanga, then confirm the date and streaming time with you.
The rite opens with sankalpa, where the priest names you, your gotra and nakshatra and states the purpose of the homa. Then Ganapati puja and punyahavachanam for purity, kalasha sthapana and the invocation of Chandra into the kalasha, and the kindling of the fire with Agni pratishtha. Chandra is invoked into the flame and worshipped with shodashopachara. The main sequence is the japa and ahutis of the Chandra Gayatri and Soma mantras — the homahuti chandra offerings — in the count your chart calls for. Samagri leans white and cooling: white rice, cow's milk, ghee, palasha samidha, white flowers, camphor, and the classical havan dravya. The homa closes with purnahuti, aarti, rakshabandhan and prasadam distribution. You watch the whole sequence on live telecast.
Book online from this page, from any country. Choose the Chandra Homa, share your name, gotra if you know it, and your birth details. Our team confirms the muhurat and sends you the live-stream link. On the day, watch the fire from wherever you are — priests perform the homa in your name at our Yagna Ashram in Pollachi, Coimbatore District, and you need not travel. Afterwards, prasadam from the fire and an energised Chandra Yantra are couriered to your address worldwide, free of shipping cost.
Our silver amulets are specially made for everyday wear: copper is added to the silver to make them more durable. With regular use, the amulet may turn black, reddish or brown as it is exposed to heat and reacts with the chemicals in cosmetics. Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cotton cloth, keep perfume and cosmetics away from it, and clean it by rubbing it gently with a pinch of vibhuti (sacred ash). Every six months, polish it with cotton dipped in a silver cleaner, but never soak or dip the amulet itself. Never open it, as the energies of the yantra are sealed inside. If it is ever damaged, send it back to us, not to a jeweller.
