The Ritual and Its Weight

The Dhanvantari Homa is a fire offering made to Dhanvantari, the divine physician who emerged from the churning of the milk ocean holding the pot of amrita. When illness lingers, when strength does not return after treatment, when a family carries a long-running complaint from one generation to the next, the tradition turns to this fire. Ghee, medicinal herbs and grains are offered into the kunda while the Dhanvantari mantra is chanted, verse after verse, until the flame itself becomes the vessel of nectar.

This is not a substitute for medicine. The shastra places the Dhanvantari homa beside treatment, not instead of it — it is offered so that the healing hand steadies, the body accepts what is given to it, and the mind stops fighting its own recovery. At our Yagna Ashram, priests perform the homa in your name and gotra, and you watch the fire live wherever you are. The prasadam and the energised Dhanvantari Yantra reach your door afterwards.

ॐ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय धन्वन्तरये अमृतकलशहस्ताय सर्वामयविनाशनाय त्रैलोक्यनाथाय श्रीमहाविष्णवे नमः Salutations to Lord Dhanvantari, who holds the vessel of nectar in his hand, destroyer of all afflictions, lord of the three worlds — an appeal to him to remove disease and grant health and long life.

Why Devotees Book This

These are the intentions the tradition assigns to the Dhanvantari homa. Devotees bring them to the fire; the outcome rests with the deity.

Recovery from illness

Offered when someone is convalescing after fever, surgery or a long hospital stay, and the family wants divine support alongside treatment.

Relief from chronic ailments

Traditionally invoked for complaints that recur season after season and never fully clear — the fire is offered for their easing.

Vitality and strength

For those who feel drained without clear cause, the homa is prescribed to restore ojas, appetite and everyday stamina.

Longevity in the family

Elders and newborns alike are named in the sankalpa, with prayers for ayush — a long, sound and unburdened span of life.

Steadiness of mind in sickness

Illness wearies the spirit before the body. The Dhanvantari mantra is chanted for calm, patience and courage through treatment.

Blessings on healers and their work

Doctors, vaidyas, therapists and caregivers offer this homa for clarity of judgement and a steady hand in their service.

Sacred timing

The most auspicious days for a Dhanvantari Homa

Dhanvantari has his own days in the calendar.

Dhanteras (Dhanvantari Trayodashi)

The thirteenth tithi of the dark fortnight of Ashwin marks Dhanvantari's appearance from the ocean. The most sought-after day for this homa.

Ekadashi and Dwadashi

Vishnu tithis suit an offering to Dhanvantari, who is counted an amsha of Vishnu. Dwadashi mornings are especially favoured.

Punarvasu, Rohini and Ashwini nakshatras

Nakshatras associated with healing, renewal and the divine physicians are chosen when the sankalpa is for recovery.

Brahma Muhurta on any Wednesday

When a case is urgent, priests do not wait for a festival. The pre-dawn hour is fixed against your birth details and the fire is lit.

You do not need to wait for one of these days. Whenever you book, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart — a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. If you would like the homa on one of the days above, tell us at checkout and we will fix the muhurta within it.

Every package, and the 48-day option

What you receive

The sealing of the Dhanvantari Yantra

The Dhanvantari Yantra is consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. When your homa concludes, it is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which those energies are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — and up to four family members if you wish. No one else is named.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request an unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Dhanvantari Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

Yantra Pujas inside our consecrated sanctum

48-Day Anushthan (optional) — daily pujas for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches. Performed in our consecrated sanctum at the Yagna Ashram.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and any family members you add, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link, which does not appear on our channel or in search, though anyone who has the link can watch it and share it.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

After it arrives

How to wear your energised Dhanvantari Yantra

01

Your auspicious time to wear it

Wear it for the first time on a Wednesday, between 6.30 and 7.30 in the morning. Bathe first, place the yantra on your pooja altar and offer your prayers, then wear it around your neck or your waist, on a red or black thread or a silver chain.

02

At a funeral

Take the yantra off before you attend a funeral.

03

Purify the amulet

Whenever the yantra has been taken off, or if it was worn at a funeral, dip it in raw milk or Ganga jal, show it incense, dhoop or attar (perfume), and then wear it again.

04

Keep the energy intact

You may repeat this energising once a week or once a month.

Who is invoked

Dhanvantari

Dhanvantari is the physician of the gods, the form of Viṣṇu who rose from the ocean of milk bearing the pot of amṛta and the science of healing. He is depicted as a youthful two- or four-armed figure, dark or deep blue, holding a leech, a pot of nectar, herbs, and sometimes the cakra. Āyurvedic lineages regard him as the celestial origin of their knowledge; the Suśruta Saṃhitā opens by saluting him as the one who taught the surgical art to the sages. Unlike martial or royal avatāras, Dhanvantari’s brief is the restoration of balance within the body and the quieting of disease. The mantra addressed to him therefore names the deity who stands at the intersection of divine compassion and empirical medicine, the one who carries the kalasha of immortality yet teaches the measured use of herbs, minerals and surgical instruments.

In this homa that grace is invoked through fire, with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

The Dhanvantari Homa, or Dhanvantari Homam, is a Vedic fire ritual offered to Dhanvantari, the physician of the gods, who rose from the churning of the milk ocean carrying the pot of amrita. Its significance lies in that image: the same hand that carried the nectar is asked to touch a body in need of healing. The rite honours health as something sacred, not merely physical. Ghee, medicinal herbs and grains are offered into the consecrated fire, with the sankalpa made for health, recovery and long life, always beside medical treatment, never instead of it.
Lord Dhanvantari is the divine physician who rose from the milk ocean during its churning, carrying the pot of amrita. He is regarded as the source of Ayurveda and is worshipped as the deity of medicine and healing. Dhanvantari is counted as an amsha, a partial descent, of Vishnu. He is the presiding deity of physicians and Ayurvedic practitioners.
Dhanvantari is shown four-armed, holding the amrita kalasha, the pot of nectar, and usually a leech, a conch and a chakra; some traditions place a text of Ayurveda in place of the leech. The conch and chakra mark him as a form of Vishnu, and the leech recalls the healer's craft. The nectar vessel is the essential mark of him, and it is the image the Dhanvantari Homa honours when it asks for healing and long life.
Devotees traditionally seek the Dhanvantari Homa for recovery from illness, relief from chronic complaints that recur season after season, restored vitality and ojas, ayush — a long and sound span of life — for elders and children alike, and steadiness of mind through treatment. Doctors, vaidyas, therapists and caregivers also offer it for clarity of judgement and a steady hand in their work. It is offered as prayer, and alongside medical care, never in place of it.
The Dhanvantari Homa is for anyone recovering from illness, living with a long-standing condition, caring for an ailing family member, or entering advancing years. Doctors and Ayurvedic practitioners often offer it for their practice, and families book it on Dhanteras for the household's health through the year. Our priests perform it at our Yagna Ashram in the name of the person it is for, and you watch the live telecast from wherever you are. It is a private ceremony for you and up to four family members, never a group rite.
Our priests perform the Dhanvantari Homa around a consecrated fire at our Yagna Ashram, beginning with achamana, Ganapati puja and punyahavachana, then declaring the sankalpa in your name, gotra and nakshatra. The kunda is consecrated, Agni invoked, and Dhanvantari installed in the fire and honoured with the Dhanvantari puja. Offerings of cow's ghee, palasha and other samidha, navadhanya, honey, medicinal herbs and tulsi are made with mantra, every priest making their own offerings, followed by purnahuti, aarti and prayer for the person named. You watch it all on the live telecast.
You can book the Dhanvantari Homa with one, three or five priests. Each package is the complete homa, with the same ritual stages and the same kinds of offerings, performed privately for you and up to four family members and never combined with another booking. What changes is the number of priests: every priest makes their own ahutis, the offerings into the fire, and all of them perform at the same time, in one ceremony. An ahuti count is a count of these offerings, not a japa count, which measures repetitions of a mantra. Each priest makes 108 ahutis: 108 in all with one priest, 324 with three and 540 with five, in approximately 1 hour. A larger package adds priests and offerings, not a second ceremony. Choose the scale that fits your intention, preference and budget; the one-priest homa is complete in itself, and no package guarantees a particular result.
Yes. Our listed Dhanvantari Homa packages specify standard ahuti counts and priest numbers. If your astrologer has prescribed a different count, we can arrange a customised homa following review by our priests. Please share your requirements with our Devotee Relationship Team on +91 96295 55442. The team will confirm the ahuti count, number of priests, approximate duration and total price before you book. Your customised homa remains a private ceremony dedicated to your sankalpa, never combined with other customers' bookings.
About an hour, whichever package you choose: the priests perform together and make their offerings at the same time, so three or five priests do not lengthen the ceremony. Your muhurta, the date and time, is confirmed by email within 24–48 working hours of booking, and the live telecast link arrives the day before, so you can follow every stage wherever you are.
You do not need to wait for an auspicious day. Whenever you book, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart — a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. If you would prefer one of the days traditionally sacred to Dhanvantari — Dhanteras, the Dhanvantari Trayodashi, Ekadashi and Dwadashi, above all a Dwadashi morning, Punarvasu, Rohini or Ashwini nakshatra, or Brahma muhurta on a Wednesday — tell us in the notes at checkout and we will fix the muhurta within it. Our Panchang shows the tithi and nakshatra for any date.
Yes. What directs a homa is its sankalpa: the solemn resolve the priest makes before the fire is kindled, stating who the homa is for and what it is offered for. The deity invoked and the ritual remain the same; the purpose is yours, as your astrologer has advised it. So if you have been advised the Dhanvantari Homa for a reason other than those on this page, write that purpose in your own words in the “Your sankalpa” box on the birth-details page, straight after payment, and the priest will state it in the sankalpa with your name, gotra and nakshatra. If the advice also names a date, a number of ahutis or a number of priests, mention it in the notes at checkout, or call our Devotee Relationship Team on +91 96295 55442 before you book.
Book the Dhanvantari Homa online on this page, from India or from any other country; devotees living abroad book it the same way, and prices are shown in your currency. Choose one, three or five priests, and straight after payment add your name, gotra if you know it and your birth star, with your prayer for the homa in the “Your sankalpa” box. Your muhurta is confirmed by email within 24–48 working hours and the live telecast link arrives the day before, so you can watch the entire homa live, wherever you are. Afterwards, prasadam and your energised Dhanvantari Yantra are couriered to you anywhere in the world, free of shipping cost.
Every Dhanvantari Homa package includes the energised Dhanvantari Yantra: a copper plate of about 1–2 inches, consecrated over three days and present in the fire through your homa. It is then rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet of about 2–4 inches, made to be worn, and couriered to you with your prasadam, free of shipping cost, usually reaching you in 1–2 weeks within India and 2–4 weeks internationally from the homa’s completion; the tracking email gives your personal time to wear it. If you add the optional 48-Day Anushthan, the yantra is also worshipped daily in our consecrated sanctum for 48 days before it is sealed.
Our silver amulets are specially made for everyday wear: copper is added to the silver to make them more durable. With regular use, the amulet may turn black, reddish or brown as it is exposed to heat and reacts with the chemicals in cosmetics. Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cotton cloth, keep perfume and cosmetics away from it, and clean it by rubbing it gently with a pinch of vibhuti (sacred ash). Every six months, polish it with cotton dipped in a silver cleaner, but never soak or dip the amulet itself. Never open it, as the energies of the yantra are sealed inside. If it is ever damaged, send it back to us, not to a jeweller.

Your ritual date is an auspicious muhurta calculated personally for you — not a slot on a rota. Once it is confirmed, rescheduling from the customer's side is not available, and cancellation does not carry a refund. If we ever have to move your ritual for unforeseen reasons at the ashram, we will inform you immediately and provide a fresh auspicious date at no cost — and your telecast, recording, prasadam and yantra remain exactly as promised.

Read the full refund and cancellation policy.
