The Ritual and Its Weight
Rahu and Ketu are the chhaya grahas, the shadow planets — the severed head and the tail of the celestial serpent, always sitting opposite one another in your horoscope. They own no body and no light, yet they colour every planet they touch. When they fall on your Moon, your seventh house, or the whole spine of your chart in a Kala Sarpa pattern, life takes on a particular texture: effort that does not land, alliances that stall, a restlessness you cannot name. The Rahu-Ketu Shanti Homa is the Dosha Nivarana rite prescribed exactly for this.
In this Maha homa the two nodes are invoked together, because in the Vedic view they cannot be addressed apart. Priests at our Yagna Ashram offer the Rahu and Ketu bija mantras into the fire with black sesame, urad, kushmanda and darbha, then close with a Navagraha shanti so the remaining seven planets are settled around the pacified axis. The tradition frames this rite as an act of respect toward forces that carry your unfinished karma — not as a way to defeat them, but as a way to ask them to walk beside you rather than across you. You watch the fire live from wherever you are.
I bow to Rahu, half-bodied and mighty, who eclipses the Sun and the Moon and was born of Simhika; and I bow to Ketu, blazing like the palasha blossom, crest of the stars and planets, fierce and awesome — may both grant me peace.What a Maha Homa is
Not every fire ritual is performed at the same scale. A Maha Homa is our largest form — more priests, a longer fire, and the complete chanting sequence the rite prescribes rather than an abridged one. This is what that means in practice.
A Maha Homa is never a group ceremony, the same as any homa we conduct. What the scale changes is the weight of the offering — ten trained voices holding one hymn for two hours is a different undertaking from one voice for an hour, and it is reserved for the intentions that warrant it.
Why Devotees Book This
Devotees come to the Rahu-Ketu Shanti Homam when a competent astrologer has read the nodal axis in their chart. These are the intentions the tradition attaches to the rite.
Pacifying the nodal axis
Offered when Rahu or Ketu sits on the ascendant, the Moon, or in a Kala Sarpa formation, to soften the grip of the shadow planets on the chart.
Restoring planetary balance
The closing Navagraha shanti addresses the other seven planets, so the whole chart is invoked rather than one afflicted point in isolation.
Marriage and alliance matters
Among the rahu ketu pooja benefits for marriage, tradition names the seventh-house nodal affliction that shows as repeated delay or unsettled alliance talks.
Rahu and Ketu dasha-bhukti periods
Prescribed at the opening of a Rahu or Ketu major or sub-period, as a prayer for steadiness through years the nodes govern.
Clarity where confusion sits
Rahu is said to obscure and Ketu to detach. The homa is offered as a prayer for discernment in decisions that have felt clouded.
Ancestral and karmic threads
Ketu carries the residue of past karma. The rite is performed in the Dosha Nivarana spirit of settling old debts with reverence.

The most auspicious days for a Rahu-Ketu Shanti Homa
The nodes have their own hours.
Saturday is traditionally given to Rahu and Tuesday to Ketu. The sankalpa is set outside Rahu Kalam and Yamagandam of that day.
Ashwini, Magha and Mula belong to Ketu. When your chart calls for one node in particular, that node's nakshatra is preferred.
Grahana kaala is the classical hour of the nodes. Homas near a solar or lunar eclipse, and on Amavasya, are held to carry particular weight for shadow-planet shanti.
When a nodal major period or antardasha begins, the homa is offered at its threshold as a prayer for a settled passage.
You do not need to wait for one of these days. Whenever you book, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart — a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. If you would like the homa on one of the days above, tell us at checkout and we will fix the muhurta within it.
What you receive
The sealing of the Rahu-Ketu Yantra
The Rahu-Ketu Yantra is consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. When your homa concludes, it is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which those energies are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.
This is what arrives at your door, at no extra cost, with your prasadam.
Personal sankalpa
Your name, gotra & nakshatra — and up to four family members if you wish. No one else is named.
Live telecast
Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request an unlisted telecast at checkout.

How to wear your energised Rahu-Ketu Yantra
Your auspicious time to wear it
Wear it for the first time on the day named in your dispatch email, between 6.30 and 7.30 in the morning. Bathe first, place the yantra on your pooja altar and offer your prayers, then wear it around your neck or your waist, on a red or black thread or a silver chain.
At a funeral
Take the yantra off before you attend a funeral.
Purify the amulet
Whenever the yantra has been taken off, or if it was worn at a funeral, dip it in raw milk or Ganga jal, show it incense, dhoop or attar (perfume), and then wear it again.
Keep the energy intact
You may repeat this energising once a week or once a month.

Rahu and Ketu
The two chhaya grahas hold the lunar nodes, the points where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's. Puranic story gives them one origin: an asura who drank a share of the nectar was severed at the neck, and the head became Rahu, the trunk and tail became Ketu. So they are counted among the Navagrahas though they own no disc and no light of their own. Rahu is pictured as a half body, dark as storm cloud, born of Simhika, the one who presses upon Sun and Moon at eclipse. Ketu is flag-bodied, the colour of palasha flower, fierce, crowned with the head of stars. Tradition gives Rahu worldly hunger, foreign things, sudden reversal; Ketu gives detachment, moksha, and the pull inward. Devotees address them together, since they always stand opposite.
In this homa that grace is invoked through fire, with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.
