Goddess Shailaputri, the first manifestation of Navadurga, is revered as the “Daughter of the Mountains” (Shaila = mountain, Putri = daughter). She is the reincarnation of Goddess Sati, daughter of King Daksha, who self-immolated due to her father’s insult to Lord Shiva. Reborn as Parvati to King Himavan (the Himalaya mountains), she undertook severe penance to win Lord Shiva as her consort, embodying unwavering devotion, purity, and strength.

Depicted riding a white bull (Nandi), holding a trident and lotus, Shailaputri symbolises the Muladhara (root) chakra—foundation of life, stability, and grounding energy.
