The Ritual and Its Weight

The Tara Homa is a fire rite offered to Tara, the second of the ten Mahavidyas, whose name means both 'star' and 'she who ferries across'. In the śāstra she is the goddess of the spoken word and of the mind that stays awake — the light a traveller fixes on when the road is dark. Students, scholars and candidates facing examinations have turned to her for centuries, because her worship is prescribed for vāk (speech), medhā (retentive intellect) and dhāraṇā (the power to hold attention on one point).

In the tara homa, the priest builds the fire, seats Tara in it through her bīja mantra, and feeds each āhuti with ghee, samidha and the substances her vidhi calls for. Every offering is made in the devotee's name, gotra and nakshatra. Where study feels scattered, where a subject refuses to stay in the mind, where an examination has been attempted more than once, tradition places this homa as the remedy — an act of surrender before the goddess who carries the seeker across difficult water.

ॐ ह्रीं स्त्रीं हुं फट् I call upon Tara, the saviouress — awaken speech and intellect within me, and cut away the confusion that clouds my mind.

Why Devotees Book This

Parents book the Tara Homa for children in board and entrance years; adults book it for themselves before licensing and competitive papers. These are the intentions the tradition assigns to the rite.

Steadier Concentration

Offered so the mind settles on the page and stays there, instead of drifting between a dozen open thoughts.

Retentive Memory

Tara is invoked as the giver of medhā — the intellect that takes in what is studied and returns it when called for.

Clarity in Examinations

Traditionally performed before board exams, entrance tests, interviews and professional papers, when everything must come together on one morning.

Confident Speech

As the goddess of vāk, Tara is worshipped by those who must speak — vivas, presentations, oral rounds and defences.

Obstacles in the Path of Study

For repeated attempts, stalled research, interrupted courses and applications that keep slipping — the rite is offered to clear the way forward.

Calm Before the Paper

Devotees seek her steadiness for the nervous stretch before results and the night before an examination.

Sacred timing

The most auspicious days for a Tara Homa

Tara's worship follows her own calendar.

Tara Jayanti

Her appearance day, observed in the bright fortnight of Chaitra, is the most charged day of her year. If you are looking up the tara maa puja date 2026, ask our team and we will confirm the tithi for your region.

Ashtami and Navami Tithi

The eighth and ninth lunar days of either fortnight are classical Mahavidya days, favoured for a full Tara Homa.

Tuesdays and Amavasya Night

Mangalavara and the new-moon night are traditionally kept for the fierce, protective forms of the Devi, including Tara.

Before the Examination Season

Many families schedule the homa at the start of a study year, or in the weeks before board and entrance papers, so the sankalpa carries through the season.

You do not need to wait for one of these days. Whenever you book, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart — a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. If you would like the homa on one of the days above, tell us at checkout and we will fix the muhurta within it.

Every package, and the 48-day option

What you receive

The sealing of the Tara Yantra

The Tara Yantra is consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. When your homa concludes, it is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which those energies are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — and up to four family members if you wish. No one else is named.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request an unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Tara Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

Yantra Pujas inside our consecrated sanctum

48-Day Anushthan (optional) — daily pujas for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches. Performed in our consecrated sanctum at the Yagna Ashram.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and any family members you add, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link, which does not appear on our channel or in search, though anyone who has the link can watch it and share it.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

After it arrives

How to wear your energised Tara Yantra

01

Your auspicious time to wear it

Wear it for the first time on a Tuesday, between 6.30 and 7.30 in the morning. Bathe first, place the yantra on your pooja altar and offer your prayers, then wear it around your neck or your waist, on a red or black thread or a silver chain.

02

At a funeral

Take the yantra off before you attend a funeral.

03

Purify the amulet

Whenever the yantra has been taken off, or if it was worn at a funeral, dip it in raw milk or Ganga jal, show it incense, dhoop or attar (perfume), and then wear it again.

04

Keep the energy intact

You may repeat this energising once a week or once a month.

Who is invoked

Tara

Second among the ten Mahavidyas, she stands in the fierce pratyalidha stance upon a corpse, her body deep blue like the sky before dawn, a tiger skin at her waist and serpents for ornament. Four arms hold the sword and the shears, the blue lotus and the skull bowl; matted hair carries the small figure of Akshobhya. Her name is read two ways in the tradition — the star that guides, and she who ferries a traveller across deep water. Tantric texts know her also as Nila Sarasvati and Ekajata, and in that form she governs vak, the spoken word, and the mind that stays alert. Devotees turn to this fierce mother when the road ahead is dark and speech, memory and steady attention are what the journey asks of them.

In this homa that grace is invoked through fire, with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

The Tara Homa, also written Tara Homam, is a Vedic fire ritual offered to Goddess Tara, the second of the ten Mahavidyas, whose name means both 'star' and 'she who ferries across'. She is worshipped as the goddess of the spoken word and of the mind that stays awake, and her worship is prescribed for vāk (speech), medhā (retentive intellect) and dhāraṇā (the power to hold attention on one point). Offerings of ghee, samidha and prescribed dravya are made into the fire with mantra, in your name and nakshatra, as a prayer for a clear and unwavering mind.
Tradition prescribes the Tara Homa for concentration, retentive memory, clarity of expression and success in examinations and interviews. As the goddess of vāk, Tara is also worshipped by those who must speak in vivas, presentations and oral rounds, and devotees seek her steadiness for the nervous stretch before a paper or its results. It is also offered when study is repeatedly interrupted — stalled courses, repeated attempts, blocked applications. The rite is an act of devotion and sankalpa; the fruit rests with the goddess and with your own continued effort at the desk.
The Tara Homa suits students preparing for board, entrance, competitive or professional examinations, research scholars and those defending a thesis, and anyone whose work depends on speech and recall, such as teachers, advocates and presenters. Parents commonly book it on a child's behalf. You do not perform it yourself: qualified priests at our Yagna Ashram perform it for you, using your name, gotra and birth star, and you watch it on live telecast.
Our priests perform the Tara Homa at our Yagna Ashram as a single ceremony of purification, sankalpa, invocation, offering and purnahuti. They begin with achamana, Ganapati puja and punyahavachana, then declare the sankalpa in your name, gotra and nakshatra. Kalasha sthapana and the avahana of Tara follow, and Agni is kindled in the kunda. The ahutis of cow ghee, samidha, sesame, rice, honey and prescribed flowers and herbs are offered with mantra, every priest making their own offerings, with prayers for vidya and vak-siddhi throughout. The rite closes with purnahuti and arati, and you watch it all on live telecast.
You can book the Tara Homa with one, three or five priests. Each package is the complete homa, with the same ritual stages and the same kinds of offerings, performed privately for you and up to four family members and never combined with another booking. What changes is the number of priests: every priest makes their own ahutis, the offerings into the fire, and all of them perform at the same time, in one ceremony. An ahuti count is a count of these offerings, not a japa count, which measures repetitions of a mantra. Each priest makes 108 ahutis: 108 in all with one priest, 324 with three and 540 with five, in approximately 1 hour. A larger package adds priests and offerings, not a second ceremony. Choose the scale that fits your intention, preference and budget; the one-priest homa is complete in itself, and no package guarantees a particular result.
Yes. Our listed Tara Homa packages specify standard ahuti counts and priest numbers. If your astrologer has prescribed a different count, we can arrange a customised homa following review by our priests. Please share your requirements with our Devotee Relationship Team on +91 96295 55442. The team will confirm the ahuti count, number of priests, approximate duration and total price before you book. Your customised homa remains a private ceremony dedicated to your sankalpa, never combined with other customers' bookings.
About an hour, whichever package you choose: the priests perform together and make their offerings at the same time, so three or five priests do not lengthen the ceremony. Your muhurta, the date and time, is confirmed by email within 24–48 working hours of booking, and the live telecast link arrives the day before, so you can follow every stage wherever you are.
You do not need to wait for an auspicious day. Whenever you book, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart — a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. If you would prefer one of the days traditionally sacred to Tara — Tara Jayanti in the bright fortnight of Chaitra, Ashtami or Navami tithi, a Tuesday, or the night of Amavasya — tell us in the notes at checkout and we will fix the muhurta within it. If an examination date is set, mention it too, and our priests will recommend a muhurta that sits well before it. Our Panchang shows the tithi and nakshatra for any date.
Yes. What directs a homa is its sankalpa: the solemn resolve the priest makes before the fire is kindled, stating who the homa is for and what it is offered for. The deity invoked and the ritual remain the same; the purpose is yours, as your astrologer has advised it. So if you have been advised the Tara Homa for a reason other than those on this page, write that purpose in your own words in the “Your sankalpa” box on the birth-details page, straight after payment, and the priest will state it in the sankalpa with your name, gotra and nakshatra. If the advice also names a date, a number of ahutis or a number of priests, mention it in the notes at checkout, or call our Devotee Relationship Team on +91 96295 55442 before you book.
Book the Tara Homa online on this page, from India or from any other country; devotees living abroad book it the same way, and prices are shown in your currency. Choose one, three or five priests, and straight after payment add your name, gotra if you know it and your birth star, with your prayer for the homa in the “Your sankalpa” box. Your muhurta is confirmed by email within 24–48 working hours and the live telecast link arrives the day before, so you can watch the entire homa live, wherever you are. Afterwards, prasadam and your energised Tara Yantra are couriered to you anywhere in the world, free of shipping cost.
Every Tara Homa package includes the energised Tara Yantra: a copper plate of about 1–2 inches, consecrated over three days and present in the fire through your homa. It is then rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet of about 2–4 inches, made to be worn, and couriered to you with your prasadam, free of shipping cost, usually reaching you in 1–2 weeks within India and 2–4 weeks internationally from the homa’s completion; the tracking email gives your personal time to wear it. If you add the optional 48-Day Anushthan, the yantra is also worshipped daily in our consecrated sanctum for 48 days before it is sealed.
Our silver amulets are specially made for everyday wear: copper is added to the silver to make them more durable. With regular use, the amulet may turn black, reddish or brown as it is exposed to heat and reacts with the chemicals in cosmetics. Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cotton cloth, keep perfume and cosmetics away from it, and clean it by rubbing it gently with a pinch of vibhuti (sacred ash). Every six months, polish it with cotton dipped in a silver cleaner, but never soak or dip the amulet itself. Never open it, as the energies of the yantra are sealed inside. If it is ever damaged, send it back to us, not to a jeweller.

Your ritual date is an auspicious muhurta calculated personally for you — not a slot on a rota. Once it is confirmed, rescheduling from the customer's side is not available, and cancellation does not carry a refund. If we ever have to move your ritual for unforeseen reasons at the ashram, we will inform you immediately and provide a fresh auspicious date at no cost — and your telecast, recording, prasadam and yantra remain exactly as promised.

Read the full refund and cancellation policy.
