The Ritual and Its Weight

The Ashlesha Nakshatra Homa is offered for those born under Ashlesha, the ninth nakshatra, whose presiding powers are the Sarpa Devatas — the serpent deities of coiled, patient energy. Tradition holds that each of us carries the signature of our birth star through life, and that the star's own devata answers most readily to fire. In this homa the priests kindle the kunda, name you and your gotra, and offer to Ashlesha's devata the oblations the texts prescribe, so that the current of your janma nakshatra runs clean rather than knotted.

Ashlesha is a star of depth. It gives penetrating insight, hypnotic speech, the capacity to hold a secret and to see beneath surfaces. The same depth can turn inward as restlessness, entanglement in others' affairs, or a mind that will not put a matter down. The Ashlesha Nakshatra puja is prescribed to settle that current — on your birth star each month, in your Ashlesha or Mercury periods, before a marriage, a move or a new venture. The ashlesha nakshatra shanti puja vidhi is followed as the Nakshatra Suktas lay it out, without shortening.

ॐ नमोऽस्तु सर्पेभ्यो ये के च पृथिवीमनु। ये अन्तरिक्षे ये दिवि तेभ्यः सर्पेभ्यो नमः॥ Salutations to the serpent powers — to all those upon the earth, to those in the mid-region and to those in the heavens; to all these serpents, our reverence.

Why Devotees Book This

Devotees turn to the Ashlesha Nakshatra Homa to stand right with their birth star and ask its devata for shelter and increase.

Birth-star alignment

The homa is offered in your name and gotra on your janma nakshatra, so the rite reaches the star you were born under rather than a general blessing.

Protection of the Sarpa Devatas

Ashlesha's presiding serpent powers are invoked as guardians — traditionally sought for shelter from unseen harm, hostility and fear.

Clarity in a deep mind

Ashlesha gives penetrating thought. The rite is prescribed to steady that depth, so insight serves you instead of circling.

Ease in relationships

Families book this before betrothals and weddings, including when looking for the best match for an Ashlesha nakshatra female, so the union begins with the star propitiated.

Steady prosperity

Nakshatra homas are performed at the start of ventures, new work and new homes, asking that effort meet with unobstructed growth.

Relief during Mercury and Ashlesha periods

When the dasha or bhukti of Ashlesha's lord is running, the shanti puja vidhi is the traditional recourse for a smoother passage.

Sacred timing

The most auspicious days for an Ashlesha Nakshatra Homa

The homa carries most force when the sky itself is turned toward Ashlesha.

Ashlesha Nakshatra day

The moon's monthly transit through Ashlesha is the first choice — your own janma nakshatra day, the fittest hour for the ashlesha nakshatra puja.

Wednesdays and Mercury hora

Ashlesha falls in Mercury's ownership by traditional reckoning; Wednesday mornings and the Mercury hora are favoured for the homa.

Panchami and Naga Panchami

Fifth tithis, and Naga Panchami in Shravana, are classically kept for the Sarpa Devatas who preside over Ashlesha.

Before a beginning

Ahead of a marriage, a house-warming, a new venture or the start of an Ashlesha or Mercury dasha, the homa is performed as shanti.

You do not need to wait for one of these days. Whenever you book, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart — a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. If you would like the homa on one of the days above, tell us at checkout and we will fix the muhurta within it.

Every package, and the 48-day option

What you receive

The sealing of the Ashlesha Nakshatra Yantra

The Ashlesha Nakshatra Yantra is consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. When your homa concludes, it is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which those energies are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — and up to four family members if you wish. No one else is named.

Hear yours read back, as the priest will say it →

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request an unlisted telecast at checkout.

Yantra Pujas inside our consecrated sanctum

48-Day Anushthan (optional) — daily pujas for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches. Performed in our consecrated sanctum at the Yagna Ashram.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and any family members you add, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link, which does not appear on our channel or in search, though anyone who has the link can watch it and share it.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

After it arrives

How to wear your energised Ashlesha Nakshatra Yantra

01

Your auspicious time to wear it

Wear it for the first time on a Wednesday, between 6.30 and 7.30 in the morning. Bathe first, place the yantra on your pooja altar and offer your prayers, then wear it around your neck or your waist, on a red or black thread or a silver chain.

02

At a funeral

Take the yantra off before you attend a funeral.

03

Purify the amulet

Whenever the yantra has been taken off, or if it was worn at a funeral, dip it in raw milk or Ganga jal, show it incense, dhoop or attar (perfume), and then wear it again.

04

Keep the energy intact

You may repeat this energising once a week or once a month.

Inside the fire ritual

How your Ashlesha Nakshatra Homa is performed

01

Sankalpa

The priest states your name, gotra and nakshatra — and those of up to four family members — with the intention this homa is performed for.

02

Ganapati Puja

The customary invocation to Ganapati, clearing obstacles before the deity is approached.

03

Agni Pratishtha

The fire is consecrated in the homa kunda and Agni invoked as the carrier of every offering that follows.

04

Sarpa Devatas Avahana

The mula mantras of the Sarpa Devatas are chanted, inviting the deity's presence into the fire — by one, three or five priests as your package sets.

05

Ahuti

Ghee and akshata, with the flowers, grains and dravyas proper to this deity, are offered in sequence with mantra. Each priest makes 108 of these offerings with the mula mantras of the Sarpa Devatas — 108, 324 or 540 in all, by package.

06

Purnahuti

The final complete offering seals the sankalpa stated at the opening.

07

Aarti & Dispatch

Aarti is performed live on your telecast. Vibhuti, sandalwood powder, kumkum and your energised Ashlesha Nakshatra Yantra are then packed and shipped free to your door.

Who is invoked

The Sarpa Devatas

Coiled in the waters, in anthills, at the roots of trees and in the unseen spaces of the earth, the serpent deities are honoured across the Vedic and Puranic tradition as guardians of hidden things. Vedic prayer greets them in three realms — those upon the earth, those in the mid-air, those in the sky — and the mantra printed here bows to all of them together. In Puranic telling they are the Nagas: Ananta who bears Vishnu, Vasuki, Takshaka, Karkotaka and their kin, jewelled and many-hooded, keepers of treasure, of ancestral ground and of fertility in soil and womb. They are said to govern depth, patience and what lies beneath appearances. Devotees approach them for shelter, for clean dealings with the land and lineage, and for a mind that can hold what it knows without being tangled in it.

In this homa that grace is invoked through fire, with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

The Ashlesha Nakshatra Homa, also called the Ashlesha Nakshatra Homam, is a fire ritual offered to the Sarpa Devatas, the serpent deities who preside over Ashlesha, in the name and gotra of a person born under that star. Its significance is alignment: the tradition holds that when your janma nakshatra is honoured in fire, its energy supports you instead of pressing on you, and its devata stands as protector. It is the Ashlesha nakshatra puja offered through Agni, so that the current of your birth star runs clean rather than knotted.
Ashlesha is the ninth of the twenty-seven nakshatras, lying wholly within Karka (Cancer). Its name means 'the embrace' or 'the clinging one', and its symbol is a coiled serpent. Its presiding deities are the Sarpa Devatas, the serpent powers to whom this homa is offered, and its lord is Mercury. By nature it is tikshna, sharp and penetrating: a star of depth that gives keen perception and persuasive speech, and asks that depth not turn into entanglement.
The Ashlesha Nakshatra Homa is traditionally prescribed for protection under the Sarpa Devatas — shelter from unseen harm, hostility and fear — for clarity in a deep mind, for harmony in family and marriage matters, for steadiness at the start of new work, and for relief during Ashlesha or Mercury periods. The rite is offered as prayer; what it asks for is the shelter of a devata rightly invoked.
The Ashlesha Nakshatra Homa is for anyone born with the Moon in Ashlesha, and for parents on behalf of an Ashlesha-born child. It is also taken up by those running an Ashlesha or Mercury dasha, and by families arranging a marriage where Ashlesha appears in a horoscope. You do not perform it yourself: our priests perform it for you at our Yagna Ashram, naming you — and up to four family members, if you wish — in the sankalpa, and you watch the live telecast.
The priests follow the Ashlesha nakshatra shanti puja vidhi as the Nakshatra Suktas lay it out, beginning with achamana, Ganapati puja and punyahavachana, then your sankalpa in your name, star and gotra. Kalasha sthapana and Sarpa puja follow. Agni is invoked in the kunda, and the ahutis follow: ghee, samidha, milk, honey, sesame, durva and the prescribed herbs, every priest making their own offerings in the one ceremony. Purnahuti, deeparadhana and prasadam close the rite, and you watch it all on live telecast.
You can book the Ashlesha Nakshatra Homa with one, three or five priests. Each package is the complete homa, with the same ritual stages and the same kinds of offerings, performed privately for you and up to four family members and never combined with another booking. What changes is the number of priests: every priest makes their own ahutis, the offerings into the fire, and all of them perform at the same time, in one ceremony. An ahuti count is a count of these offerings, not a japa count, which measures repetitions of a mantra. Each priest makes 108 ahutis: 108 in all with one priest, 324 with three and 540 with five, in approximately 1 hour. A larger package adds priests and offerings, not a second ceremony. Choose the scale that fits your intention, preference and budget; the one-priest homa is complete in itself, and no package guarantees a particular result.
Yes. Our listed Ashlesha Nakshatra Homa packages specify standard ahuti counts and priest numbers. If your astrologer has prescribed a different count, we can arrange a customised homa following review by our priests. Please share your requirements with our Devotee Relationship Team on +91 96295 55442. The team will confirm the ahuti count, number of priests, approximate duration and total price before you book. Your customised homa remains a private ceremony dedicated to your sankalpa, never combined with other customers' bookings.
About an hour, whichever package you choose: the priests perform together and make their offerings at the same time, so three or five priests do not lengthen the ceremony. Your muhurta, the date and time, is confirmed by email within 24–48 working hours of booking, and the live telecast link arrives the day before, so you can follow every stage wherever you are.
You do not need to wait for an auspicious day. Whenever you book, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart — a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. If you would prefer one of the days tradition favours for the Ashlesha Nakshatra Homa — the Moon's monthly transit through Ashlesha, a Wednesday morning or the Mercury hora, a Panchami tithi or Naga Panchami in Shravana, or the days before a marriage, a house-warming, a new venture or the start of an Ashlesha or Mercury dasha — tell us in the notes at checkout and we will fix the muhurta within it. Our Panchang shows the tithi and nakshatra for any date.
Yes. What directs a homa is its sankalpa: the solemn resolve the priest makes before the fire is kindled, stating who the homa is for and what it is offered for. The deity invoked and the ritual remain the same; the purpose is yours, as your astrologer has advised it. So if you have been advised the Ashlesha Nakshatra Homa for a reason other than those on this page, write that purpose in your own words in the “Your sankalpa” box on the birth-details page, straight after payment, and the priest will state it in the sankalpa with your name, gotra and nakshatra. If the advice also names a date, a number of ahutis or a number of priests, mention it in the notes at checkout, or call our Devotee Relationship Team on +91 96295 55442 before you book.
Book the Ashlesha Nakshatra Homa online on this page, from India or from any other country; devotees living abroad book it the same way, and prices are shown in your currency. Choose one, three or five priests, and straight after payment add your name, gotra if you know it and your birth star, with your prayer for the homa in the “Your sankalpa” box. Your muhurta is confirmed by email within 24–48 working hours and the live telecast link arrives the day before, so you can watch the entire homa live, wherever you are. Afterwards, prasadam and your energised Ashlesha Nakshatra Yantra are couriered to you anywhere in the world, free of shipping cost.
Every Ashlesha Nakshatra Homa package includes the energised Ashlesha Nakshatra Yantra: a copper plate of about 1–2 inches, consecrated over three days and present in the fire through your homa. It is then rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet of about 2–4 inches, made to be worn, and couriered to you with your prasadam, free of shipping cost, usually reaching you in 1–2 weeks within India and 2–4 weeks internationally from the homa’s completion; the tracking email gives your personal time to wear it. If you add the optional 48-Day Anushthan, the yantra is also worshipped daily in our consecrated sanctum for 48 days before it is sealed.
Our silver amulets are specially made for everyday wear: copper is added to the silver to make them more durable. With regular use, the amulet may turn black, reddish or brown as it is exposed to heat and reacts with the chemicals in cosmetics. Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cotton cloth, keep perfume and cosmetics away from it, and clean it by rubbing it gently with a pinch of vibhuti (sacred ash). Every six months, polish it with cotton dipped in a silver cleaner, but never soak or dip the amulet itself. Never open it, as the energies of the yantra are sealed inside. If it is ever damaged, send it back to us, not to a jeweller.

Your ritual date is an auspicious muhurta calculated personally for you — not a slot on a rota. Once it is confirmed, rescheduling from the customer's side is not available, and cancellation does not carry a refund. If we ever have to move your ritual for unforeseen reasons at the ashram, we will inform you immediately and provide a fresh auspicious date at no cost — and your telecast, recording, prasadam and yantra remain exactly as promised.

Read the full refund and cancellation policy.
