Homas for the birth star that marked your chart.
Every nakshatra is ruled by its own deity and carries its own character. A Nakshatra Homa is the fire rite offered for the star under which a person was born — the sankalpa spoken in that devotee’s name, the offerings made to the deity of that star alone. The house performs these rites at its Yagna Ashram and telecasts them live, so the devotee may sit with the homa from wherever she is.
Devotees book these for

- Parents who wish a rite spoken for a child’s birth star on the annual star day
- Someone who has never had a homa performed for their own nakshatra
- A household marking the star-birthday of an elder in the family
- A devotee whose astrologer has advised strengthening the birth star before a new undertaking
- A couple booking separately for each partner’s nakshatra ahead of a household sankalpa
- Anyone who knows the star of birth and wishes that deity honoured in fire

Booking more than one for a single person is not customary. Each Nakshatra Homa is tied to one birth star and one deity; the sankalpa names the devotee born under that star. A household may book separate rites for different members — Magha for an elder, Pushya for a child — but tradition does not prescribe a sequence of several nakshatra homas for the same chart. Choose the star of birth, not a collection.
The most auspicious days for nakshatra rituals
Certain days are held especially fitting for honouring the star of birth and its deity.
The day the Moon occupies the janma nakshatra is traditionally preferred. The link between devotee, star and deity is then held to be closest.
Many households renew the sankalpa on the yearly return of the Moon to the birth nakshatra, treating it as the person’s star anniversary.
Where the ruling deity has a familiar weekday — Thursday for Brihaspati in the case of Pushya, for instance — that day is sometimes chosen when the Moon’s transit is inconvenient.
For those born under Magha, whose deity is the Pitrus, days already kept for ancestral observance are a natural setting for the Magha Nakshatra Homa.
The full-moon day is widely used for star rites when a more specific transit cannot be met, as the Moon is then at full strength.
You need not wait for any of these days. The muhurta is calculated from the devotee’s own birth chart, and the rite may be performed on any properly chosen day.
About nakshatra homas
Not sure which of these to choose?
If you are unsure which nakshatra governs the chart, begin with the free ritual guide, which walks through how the birth star is read. For a chart already in hand, a live consultation will confirm the star and whether a Nakshatra Homa is the rite to book.
Why a homa is performed for one's janma nakshatra
In the Vedic understanding of the chart, the Moon’s nakshatra at birth is not a detail of astronomy alone. It is the star under which the person entered the world, and each of the twenty-seven has a deity to whom that star belongs. A Nakshatra Homa places the sankalpa before that deity in the fire — Mitra for Anuradha, the Ashwini Kumaras for Ashwini, the Pitrus for Magha, and so through the wheel.
Devotees come to this rite when the birth star itself needs attention: under a difficult dasha, before a major passage of life, or simply because the star has never been honoured in homa. The work is specific. It is not a general graha shanti, and it is not interchangeable from one nakshatra to another. The deity, the mantras and the intent follow the star of birth.
The house performs the homa at the ashram with the devotee’s name and nakshatra in the sankalpa, and telecasts it live. What the rite is for is alignment with that star and its deity; what follows in life is left to the deity and to time.
