Homas for the doshas a birth chart still carries.
When a horoscope names a dosha — Kaala Sarpa, Mangal, Pitra, Nadi, Gandmool, Guru Chandal, Naga, or an affliction of Rahu and Ketu — the house performs the corresponding shanti homa at its Yagna Ashram and telecasts the offering live to the devotee. Each rite is done for that specific configuration. The work is the homa itself.
Devotees book these for
- A match is under discussion and Mangal or Nadi dosha has been marked in either chart
- An astrologer has named Kaala Sarpa dosha along the Rahu–Ketu axis
- Pitra dosha appears in the horoscope and ancestral shanti has been advised
- Birth under a Gandmool nakshatra, with nivarana recommended at a life passage
- Guru sits with Rahu or Ketu and the chart has been flagged for Guru Chandal
- Moon and Ketu conjoin and grahan dosha has been noted
- Naga dosha stands in the chart beside a heavy Rahu–Ketu affliction
- Several planetary afflictions appear together and a broad Navagraha or Thila offering is sought

Booking more than one is ordinary when several doshas stand in the same chart. Tradition does not fix one order for every devotee; the sequence usually follows the weight of the afflictions as read from the horoscope — often Kaala Sarpa or Rahu–Ketu Shanti first when the axis is heavy, then Mangal, Nadi, Pitra, Naga or a graha-specific rite as the chart requires. Navagraha Homa or Thila Homa may sit beside a named-dosha rite when the afflictions are several.
The most auspicious days for dosha nivarana rites
Certain tithis, weekdays and festivals are held especially suitable for pacifying named doshas.
The new-moon tithi is long chosen for shanti karmas and for rites that touch the ancestral line, including Pitra dosha work.
Tuesday belongs to Mangala (Angaraka). Mangal Dosh Nivaran Homa is often seated on this weekday when the chart allows.
Saturday is associated with Shani and, in common practice, with Rahu. Rahu–Ketu and related axis shantis are frequently set on this day.
The festival dedicated to the Nagas. It is a natural seat for Naga Dosha Nivaran and for rites that honour the Naga Devatas beside Rahu and Ketu.
The fortnight reserved for offerings to the forebears. Pitra Dosha Nivaran Homa is often aligned with these days when ancestral peace is the focus.
A devotee need not wait for one of these days. The muhurta for each homa is calculated from her own birth chart, and the rite may be seated on any suitable date the chart permits.
About dosha nivarana homas
Not sure which of these to choose?
If several doshas appear in the same chart, or if Kaala Sarpa, Rahu–Ketu and Naga rites feel hard to tell apart, begin with the free ritual guide for this category. A live consultation can then read the horoscope and name which shanti, or which sequence, fits the configurations you actually carry.
Why a homa is performed for the doshas named in a birth chart
A dosha in Jyotisha is a named configuration — of grahas, of the Rahu–Ketu axis, of the nakshatra of birth, or of the ancestral line — that an astrologer has marked as wanting shanti. The homa does not erase the yoga from the page. It is the Vedic offering made for that configuration: specific ahutis, mantras and deities matched to the dosha the chart actually carries.
At the Yagna Ashram the fire is lit for one sankalpa at a time. Kaala Sarpa calls Rahu, Ketu and the Naga Devatas; Mangal calls Angaraka; Pitra calls the Pitru Devatas; Nadi is offered through Maha Mrityunjaya; Gandmool through Ganapati and the Nakshatra Devatas. Where the affliction is broader, Navagraha Homa or Thila Homa may be chosen instead of, or beside, a single-dosha rite.
The house telecasts each homa live so the devotee can witness the offering from wherever she is. What is performed is the rite for the dosha named, and steadiness in the chart is what the sankalpa is held for.
