The Ritual and Its Weight

Guru Chandal dosha forms when Brihaspati — the planet of wisdom, dharma and good counsel — sits with or is closely aspected by Rahu or Ketu. Jupiter's light is not lost in such a chart, but it is filtered. Astrologers describe the effect as a teacher speaking through smoke: guidance arrives, yet doubt, haste and misplaced trust crowd the hearing. The Guru Chandal Dosha Nivaran Homa is the classical remedy prescribed for this placement, offered so that Guru's counsel may reach you clean.

In this Maha homa, priests kindle the fire, invoke Brihaspati with his own mantras, and offer to Rahu and Ketu in the same sitting — for the tradition does not fight the shadow planets, it settles them. Yellow flowers, chana dal, ghee and pipal samidha go into the flames while your name, gotra and nakshatra are spoken over each ahuti. The rite is done on your behalf at our Yagna Ashram and telecast to you live, wherever in the world you are seated.

देवानां च ऋषीणां च गुरुं काञ्चनसन्निभम्। बुद्धिभूतं त्रिलोकेशं तं नमामि बृहस्पतिम्॥ I bow to Brihaspati, teacher of the gods and the sages, golden in radiance, the very form of intelligence and lord of the three worlds.

What a Maha Homa is

Not every fire ritual is performed at the same scale. A Maha Homa is our largest form — more priests, a longer fire, and the complete chanting sequence the rite prescribes rather than an abridged one. This is what that means in practice.

Priests5 or 10Chanting in unison, never in rotation

A Maha Homa is never a group ceremony, the same as any homa we conduct. What the scale changes is the weight of the offering — ten trained voices holding one hymn for two hours is a different undertaking from one voice for an hour, and it is reserved for the intentions that warrant it.

Why Devotees Book This

Devotees whose charts carry Guru with Rahu or Ketu turn to this homa for these traditional intentions.

Softening the Guru-Rahu conjunction

The rite is prescribed to ease the friction between Jupiter and the shadow planets and let Guru's karaka qualities express more freely.

Clarity in judgement

Offered when decisions feel clouded, when advice keeps arriving late, or when the same wrong turn repeats.

Steadiness in faith and dharma

Guru governs shraddha, teachers and moral footing. This homa is done to restore that anchor when it feels loosened.

Balance across the Navagraha

As a dosha nivarana rite, the fire is offered so that no single graha in your chart is left straining against another.

Support in study, teaching and counsel

Students, advisors, lawyers and teachers book this homa when Guru — their own significator — sits afflicted.

Relief for marriage and progeny matters in the chart

Where Guru's aspect on the 7th or 5th is compromised, the tradition prescribes his propitiation before other remedies.

Sacred timing

The most auspicious days for a Guru Chandal Dosha Nivaran Homa

Brihaspati's own day and his nakshatras carry this fire best.

Thursday (Guruvara)

Brihaspati's weekday, and the standard choice for any Guru remedy. Morning hours are preferred.

Punarvasu, Vishakha and Purva Bhadrapada

The three nakshatras ruled by Guru. A homa timed to these is held to reach him most directly.

Guru Pushya and Guru Peyarchi

Pushya falling on a Thursday, and Jupiter's transit into a new sign, are both considered powerful windows for this homam.

Your Jupiter or Rahu dasha-bhukti period

Many devotees begin the rite as a Guru or Rahu period opens in their chart, or during Jupiter's retrograde phase.

You do not need to wait for one of these days. Whenever you book, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart — a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. If you would like the homa on one of the days above, tell us at checkout and we will fix the muhurta within it.

Every package

What you receive

The Brihaspati Yantra sealed inside the sacred silver amulet
An actual amulet received by a devotee. Your Brihaspati Yantra is a copper plate approx. 1–2 inches, rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet approx. 2–4 inches. Sizes are approximate and the amulet's design varies between supplier batches — shape, metal and consecration remain the same.

The sealing of the Brihaspati Yantra

The Brihaspati Yantra is consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. When your homa concludes, it is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which those energies are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

This is what arrives at your door, at no extra cost, with your prasadam.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — and up to four family members if you wish. No one else is named.

How to wear your energised Brihaspati Yantra

01

Your auspicious time to wear it

Wear it for the first time on a Thursday, between 6.30 and 7.30 in the morning. Bathe first, place the yantra on your pooja altar and offer your prayers, then wear it around your neck or your waist, on a red or black thread or a silver chain.

02

At a funeral

Take the yantra off before you attend a funeral.

03

Purify the amulet

Whenever the yantra has been taken off, or if it was worn at a funeral, dip it in raw milk or Ganga jal, show it incense, dhoop or attar (perfume), and then wear it again.

04

Keep the energy intact

You may repeat this energising once a week or once a month.

Who is invoked

Brihaspati with Rahu and Ketu

Golden of complexion, seated with a rosary and a water pot, Brihaspati is the preceptor of the devas, the voice that gives the gods their counsel and keeps dharma in the mind of a household. Jyotisha assigns him wisdom, teachers, children, faith and lawful wealth, and he is praised in the mantra as lord of the three worlds. Beside him in this fire stand Rahu and Ketu, the two shadow grahas born of the severed asura at the churning of the ocean. Rahu is the head that grasps and magnifies desire; Ketu the headless body that cuts, detaches and turns the mind inward. The tradition does not treat them as enemies of the guru but as powers to be honoured, so that his counsel and their pull may sit together in peace.

In this homa that grace is invoked through fire, with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

It is a Maha dosha nivarana fire ritual for horoscopes in which Brihaspati (Jupiter) is conjunct or closely afflicted by Rahu or Ketu — the combination classical texts call Guru Chandal yoga. Jupiter signifies wisdom, dharma, teachers and good counsel; when the shadow planets share his house, that counsel is said to reach the native clouded. The homa invokes Brihaspati with his own mantras and offers ahuti to Rahu and Ketu in the same sitting, so the planets in your chart sit in better relation to one another.
The tradition prescribes it for clarity of judgement, steadiness in faith and dharma, relief from repeated misjudgements, and overall balance among the Navagraha in the birth chart. It is also taken up when Guru's aspect on matters of marriage, progeny, study or teaching is compromised. The rite is an offering, not a guarantee — devotees undertake it as prescribed practice and leave the fruit to the graha.
Anyone whose horoscope shows Jupiter with Rahu or Ketu in the same house, or under their close aspect, and anyone advised by an astrologer that Guru Chandal dosha is active in a running dasha or bhukti. Students, teachers, advisors and those in law or counsel often book it, as Guru is their significator. Families book it together on behalf of a member, and there is no restriction of age, gotra or country.
Thursday, Brihaspati's own day, is the usual choice, especially in the morning hours. The Guru nakshatras — Punarvasu, Vishakha and Purva Bhadrapada — are held to be strongest, as are Guru Pushya days and the period around Guru Peyarchi, Jupiter's transit into a new sign. Share your birth details when you book and our panchang team will fix the muhurat for you.
Priests begin with sankalpa in your name, gotra and nakshatra, followed by Ganapati puja and punyahavachana. The kalasha is established and Brihaspati invoked, with Rahu and Ketu propitiated alongside. Agni is kindled in the kunda and ahutis offered through the Guru mantra and Navagraha mantras. Samagri includes cow ghee, pipal (ashvattha) samidha, chana dal, yellow flowers, turmeric, honey, navadhanya and traditional havan dravya. The rite closes with purnahuti, aarti and prayer for shanti, after which the Brihaspati Yantra is energised in the fire's presence.
Book online from any country. Choose the homa on this page, enter the name, gotra, birth star and sankalpa of everyone to be included, and confirm. We fix the muhurat, share the schedule with you, and our priests perform the guru chandal dosha nivaran homam at our Yagna Ashram on your behalf. You watch the fire live from wherever you are, and prasadam with an energised Brihaspati Yantra is couriered to your door worldwide.
Our silver amulets are specially made for everyday wear: copper is added to the silver to make them more durable. With regular use, the amulet may turn black, reddish or brown as it is exposed to heat and reacts with the chemicals in cosmetics. Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cotton cloth, keep perfume and cosmetics away from it, and clean it by rubbing it gently with a pinch of vibhuti (sacred ash). Every six months, polish it with cotton dipped in a silver cleaner, but never soak or dip the amulet itself. Never open it, as the energies of the yantra are sealed inside. If it is ever damaged, send it back to us, not to a jeweller.
