Best Day for Ganapathi Homam: 2026–2027 Dates, Timing and Benefits

The best day for a Ganapathi Homam is Chaturthi, the fourth lunar day, which belongs to Ganapathi. Each month brings two: Vinayaka Chaturthi in the waxing fortnight and Sankashti Chaturthi in the waning one. The greatest day of the year is Ganesh Chaturthi in the month of Bhadrapada, which falls on Saturday 4 September 2027. Fridays and Wednesdays are also widely favoured. For a homa tied to a particular event, such as a shop opening, a house entry or a contract, the tradition places the strongest timing on a muhurta fixed from your own birth chart.

This guide answers it day by day, lists every Chaturthi and Sankashti date from now to the end of 2027, and explains the hour of the fire, the benefits, how the homa is performed and what decides its cost.

Which day is good for Ganapathi Homam?

Chaturthi, every month. The fourth tithi of each lunar fortnight is Ganapathi's own day, and it is the most sought-after date for his homa in every month. The waxing Chaturthi, often simply called Vinayaka Chaturthi, is chosen for beginnings: a venture, a course of study, a new phase of work.

Sankashti Chaturthi. The waning Chaturthi, after the full moon, is kept for the removal of obstruction. Sankashti means deliverance from difficulty. Devotees fast through the day and close the observance when the moon rises, which is why Sankashti is reckoned by moonrise rather than sunrise. When Sankashti falls on a Tuesday it is called Angaraki Chaturthi and is held to be especially powerful. The next one is on Tuesday 22 June 2027.

Ganesh Chaturthi. The Shukla Chaturthi of Bhadrapada is the great annual festival of Ganapathi and the high day of the year for his homa. Because so many families want the fire on this one day, bookings for it fill early.

Fridays, Wednesdays and Tuesdays. Fridays are widely favoured for prosperity and business intentions. Wednesdays carry the blessing of Budha, the planet of trade, commerce and negotiation. Tuesday mornings, with Friday mornings, are the days traditionally favoured for the Ashta Dravya Maha Ganapathi Homa, the eight-offering form described below.

Before a beginning. Beyond the calendar, the strongest timing is the one tied to your own event: the days before a shop opening, a registration, a tender, a contract date, a house entry or a marriage fixture. Ganapathi is invoked first in all Vedic worship, and a homa placed just before the undertaking puts that whole undertaking under his protection at its start.

None of these days is compulsory. When the homa is booked with us, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart, a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. Ganapathi Homam dates in 2026 and 2027

Every Chaturthi from now to the end of 2027, worked out for Coimbatore by the same panchang that drives our tithi calendar. Vinayaka Chaturthi is taken at sunrise; Sankashti is taken at moonrise. A date can move by a day in another city or country, so check your own location in the tithi calendar before you fix a date.

The best time of day for Ganapathi Homam

Ganapathi Homam is a morning rite. The fire is traditionally kindled in or soon after the brahma muhurta, the hour and a half before sunrise, and the offerings continue through the morning, so that the homa is complete before midday. On a Chaturthi the tithi itself should be running when the fire is lit; the tithi calendar shows when each Chaturthi begins and ends.

Two periods are usually avoided for any auspicious start: Rahu Kalam and Yamagandam, the daily windows ruled by Rahu and by Yama. For a homa tied to an event, the hour is part of the muhurta and is fixed with the date. On Sankashti, the fast that many devotees keep alongside the homa is broken only after moonrise, after the moon has been sighted and offered water.

Benefits of Ganapathi Homam

Every benefit the tradition names for Ganapathi Homam begins in the same place: the removal of what stands in the way. Ganapathi is Vighnaharta, the remover of hindrances, and also Siddhi Vinayaka, the giver of accomplishment; the hand that clears the path also blesses what travels along it.

Clearing a blocked path. Offered when a venture feels stalled: permissions stuck, orders delayed, momentum lost.

Auspicious beginnings. Performed before a shop opening, a company registration, a product launch, a house entry or a first day of trade, so the work starts under Ganapathi's grace.

New openings. Ganapathi guards the doorway. Devotees seek his blessing for fresh contacts, unexpected enquiries and doors that had seemed closed.

Deals and negotiations. Sought before signing agreements, meeting partners or closing a sale, for clarity of speech and goodwill on both sides.

Buddhi, right judgement. Ganapathi is the lord of intellect, and the homa is turned to when a decision has to be made well.

These are the intentions the tradition attaches to the rite. A homa is a prayer offered through fire, not a guarantee of an outcome.

How Ganapathi Homam is performed

At our Yagna Ashram in Pollachi, Coimbatore District, the Ganapathi Homa is performed in seven steps, by one, three or five priests.

1. Sankalpa. The priest states your name, gotra and nakshatra, and those of up to four family members, with the intention the homa is performed for.

2. Ganapati Puja. The customary first invocation, clearing obstacles before the deity is approached.

3. Agni Pratishtha. The fire is consecrated in the homa kunda and Agni is invoked as the carrier of every offering that follows.

4. Ganapathi Avahana. The mula mantra of Ganapathi is chanted, inviting his presence into the fire.

5. Ahuti. Ghee and akshata, with the flowers, grains and dravyas proper to Ganapathi, are offered in sequence with the mantra. Each priest makes 108 offerings.

6. Purnahuti. The final, complete offering that seals the homa.

7. Aarti. The closing worship, after which the prasadam is prepared for dispatch.

Ganapathi Homam and the Ashta Dravya Maha Ganapathi Homam

Ashta dravya means eight substances. In the Ashta Dravya Maha Ganapathi Homam the priests offer eight prescribed materials, traditionally coconut, jaggery, banana, honey, sugarcane, modaka rice, ghee and sesame, into the fire kindled for Maha Ganapathi. It is a Maha Homa, chanted by five or ten priests with 216 offerings each, and in Kerala and the Tamil country it is counted among the most complete forms of Ganapathi worship.

The two are not interchangeable. The Ganapathi Homa is the rite of the threshold: a new venture, a contract, a fresh start. The Ashta Dravya Maha Ganapathi Homa is the one turned to when ordinary prayer has not moved the block: a file that sits unsigned, a proposal that has gone quiet, a matter that has dragged on for months.

What decides the cost of a Ganapathi Homam

The cost of a Ganapathi Homam is set by the scale of the rite, not by the day it is performed on. Three things decide it:

How many priests chant. The Ganapathi Homa is offered with one, three or five priests. The ritual stages and the kinds of offerings are the same in each; what changes is the number of priests, each making their own 108 offerings at the same time, so the count rises from 108 to 324 to 540.

Standard or Maha. The Ashta Dravya Maha Ganapathi Homa is a larger rite, with eight offerings, five or ten priests and 216 offerings each, and it is priced as a Maha Homa.
