The Ritual and Its Weight
The Dasa Maha Vidya Homa gathers all ten wisdom-goddesses — Kali, Tara, Tripura Sundari, Bhuvaneshwari, Chhinnamasta, Bhairavi, Dhumavati, Bagalamukhi, Matangi and Kamala — into a single fire. Each Mahavidya governs a different edge of reality: dissolution, speech, beauty, space, sacrifice, terror, isolation, stillness, sound and abundance. Together they form the complete map of Shakti. This is why the rite is placed in the Maha tier. It is not a small propitiation; it is an appeal to the whole feminine principle at once.
Tradition prescribes this homa when the trouble has no obvious source — repeated obstruction, a house that feels heavy, sleep that does not restore, ventures that unravel at the last step, the sense of an unfriendly eye. Where a single-deity rite addresses one door, the dasa mahavidya homam is offered to seal every direction. Priests chant the bija mantras of each Vidya in sequence, feed the fire with her prescribed dravya, and dedicate the merit in the sankalpa taken in your name and nakshatra.

Not every fire ritual is performed at the same scale. A Maha Homa is our largest form — more priests, a longer fire, and the complete chanting sequence the rite prescribes rather than an abridged one. This is what that means in practice.
A Maha Homa is never a group ceremony, the same as any homa we conduct. What the scale changes is the weight of the offering — ten trained voices holding one hymn for two hours is a different undertaking from one voice for an hour, and it is reserved for the intentions that warrant it.

The most auspicious days for a Dasa Maha Vidya Homa
The Mahavidyas are honoured in the dark and bright halves alike; these windows are traditionally favoured for the dasha maha vidya homam.
Both Sharada and Vasanta Navaratri, and the Gupta Navaratris of Ashada and Magha, are the classical seasons for a full Mahavidya offering.
The eighth and ninth lunar days of either paksha are held as the Mother's days and are widely chosen for Shakta homas.
The new moon, and Tuesdays, are prescribed in protection rites where Kali and Bagalamukhi are principal.
Where urgency is not pressing, priests may set the muhurat on your birth star or on Moola, Ashlesha or Bharani, which suit Shakta invocation.

The Dasa Mahavidyas Yantra is consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. When your homa concludes, it is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which those energies are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. How to wear your energised Dasa Mahavidyas Yantra
Your auspicious time to wear it
Wear it for the first time on a Tuesday, between 6.30 and 7.30 in the morning. Bathe first, place the yantra on your pooja altar and offer your prayers, then wear it around your neck or your waist, on a red or black thread or a silver chain.
At a funeral
Take the yantra off before you attend a funeral.
Purify the amulet
Whenever the yantra has been taken off, or if it was worn at a funeral, dip it in raw milk or Ganga jal, show it incense, dhoop or attar (perfume), and then wear it again.
Keep the energy intact
You may repeat this energising once a week or once a month.

Sankalpa
The priest states your name, gotra and nakshatra — and those of up to four family members — with the intention this homa is performed for.
Ganapati Puja
The customary invocation to Ganapati, clearing obstacles before the deity is approached.
Agni Pratishtha
The fire is consecrated in the homa kunda and Agni invoked as the carrier of every offering that follows.
Dasa Maha Vidya Avahana
The mula mantras of the Dasa Mahavidyas are chanted, inviting the deity's presence into the fire — by ten priests.
Ahuti
Ghee and akshata, with the flowers, grains and dravyas proper to this deity, are offered in sequence with mantra.
Purnahuti
The final complete offering seals the sankalpa stated at the opening.

Ten wisdom-goddesses stand together as the full spectrum of Shakti, each a distinct face of the one Mother. Kali is dark and unclothed by time, holding the sword of dissolution. Tara carries the sound that crosses over. Tripura Sundari is beauty seated on the throne of the three worlds, and Bhuvaneshwari holds all space as her body. Chhinnamasta offers her own head; Bhairavi burns; Dhumavati sits in smoke and widowhood, unattached to comfort. Bagalamukhi stills the tongue and hand of the aggressor. Matangi rules speech beyond convention, and Kamala pours out abundance. Tantric texts and the Shakta upasana traditions treat them as ten doorways of one knowledge. Devotees approach them together when the whole of the Mother's protection is sought, not one aspect alone.
