The Ritual and Its Weight

The Pratyangira Devi Homa is a Maha-tier fire rite offered to Atharvana Bhadrakali Pratyangira, the lion-faced form of the Mother who is invoked when a household feels besieged by what it cannot see. The tradition prescribes it for the pressure of the evil eye, for abhichara and black magic worked with ill intent, for psychic disturbance, and for hostility that follows a family without explanation. Her name means she who turns back — the force sent out is returned to its source, and the devotee is left covered.

Because this is a Maha homa, the fire is raised with fuller sankalpa, longer mantra japa and a wider offering than an ordinary archana. Our priests perform it at AstroBhava's own Yagna Ashram in Pollachi, Coimbatore District, in your name and your gotra, while you watch the live telecast from wherever you are. Nothing is asked of you but your name, your star and your intention. The vibhuti, kumkum and the energised Pratyangira Devi Yantra from the altar are couriered to your door.

ॐ ह्रीं क्षौं प्रत्यङ्गिरे नरसिंहि आत्मरक्षां कुरु कुरु स्वाहा Om, Pratyangira, lion-faced Mother, protect me — turn back all harm sent against me; this offering is yours.

What a Maha Homa is

Not every fire ritual is performed at the same scale. A Maha Homa is our largest form — more priests, a longer fire, and the complete chanting sequence the rite prescribes rather than an abridged one. This is what that means in practice.

Priests5 or 10Chanting in unison, never in rotation
The fire burnsApprox. 2 hoursFrom the sankalpa to the final aarti

TelecastEvery minuteNothing is performed off camera

A Maha Homa is never a group ceremony, the same as any homa we conduct. What the scale changes is the weight of the offering — ten trained voices holding one hymn for two hours is a different undertaking from one voice for an hour, and it is reserved for the intentions that warrant it.

Why devotees book this

Benefits of the Pratyangira Devi Homa

Devotees turn to the Pratyangira Devi Homa when protection is the whole of the prayer. These are the intentions the tradition assigns to the rite.

Shield against the evil eye

Offered when drishti or envious attention seems to be shadowing a home, a child or a new venture.

Reversal of abhichara

The classical purpose of Pratyangira worship — to send back hostile mantra, black magic and deliberate ill-working to where it began.

Relief from psychic disturbance

Sought by those who feel watched, drained or unsettled at night without cause they can name.

A guarded household

The rite is done for the protection of the whole family, the dwelling and its threshold, not the individual alone.

Steadiness against hostility

Prescribed where opposition, litigation or persistent enmity presses on a person's work and peace.

Purification of the space

The fire, the mantra and the energised Pratyangira Devi Yantra are traditionally used to clear the atmosphere of a home or workplace.

Has your astrologer prescribed a different number of ahutis? Our priests can review it and arrange a customised homa. Call our Devotee Relationship Team on +91 96295 55442 — they confirm the count, the priests, the approximate duration and the total price before you book.

Sacred timing

The most auspicious days for a Pratyangira Devi Homa

Pratyangira is a night deity. Her homa is traditionally raised in the darker half of the month and in the hours after dusk. Our panchanga team fixes the muhurat for your booking.

Amavasya and Krishna Paksha nights

The new moon and the waning fortnight are the classical window for Pratyangira upasana, especially the pradosha and midnight hours.

Ashlesha and Bharani nakshatra

These stars are held favourable for the fierce protective forms of the Mother and are often chosen for this homa.

Tuesdays and Fridays

Mangalavara and Shukravara are the weekdays associated with Shakti worship for protection and turning back harm.

Rahu Kala on a Tuesday

Some lineages offer Pratyangira specifically in this period; where your chart supports it, the priests will schedule accordingly.

You do not need to wait for one of these days. Whenever you book, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart — a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. If you would like the homa on one of the days above, tell us at checkout and we will fix the muhurta within it.

Every package

What you receive

The Pratyangira Devi Yantra sealed inside the sacred silver amulet
An actual amulet received by a devotee. Your Pratyangira Devi Yantra is a copper plate approx. 1–2 inches, rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet approx. 2–4 inches. Sizes are approximate and the amulet's design varies between supplier batches — shape, metal and consecration remain the same.

The sealing of the Pratyangira Devi Yantra

The Pratyangira Devi Yantra is consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. When your homa concludes, it is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which those energies are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

This is what arrives at your door, at no extra cost, with your prasadam.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — and up to four family members if you wish. No one else is named.

Hear yours read back, as the priest will say it →

Your auspicious time to wear it

Wear it for the first time on the day named in your dispatch email, between 6.30 and 7.30 in the morning. Bathe first, place the yantra on your pooja altar and offer your prayers, then wear it around your neck or your waist, on a red or black thread or a silver chain.

At a funeral

Take the yantra off before you attend a funeral.

03

Purify the amulet

Whenever the yantra has been taken off, or if it was worn at a funeral, dip it in raw milk or Ganga jal, show it incense, dhoop or attar (perfume), and then wear it again.

You may repeat this energising once a week or once a month.

Who is invoked

Pratyangira Devi

Lion-faced and dark as a storm, she rises from the fierce lineage of the Mother — a Shakti born of Narasimha's heat, worshipped as Atharvana Bhadrakali, her mantras drawn from the Atharvanic stream of ritual. She is shown with a woman's body and a lioness's head, red-eyed, garlanded, riding a lion, trident and noose and drum in her many hands, hair loose and flaming. Her name carries the sense of turning back: what is sent with harmful intent she reverses toward its source. The tradition places her among the guardian Shaktis called upon against abhichara, the evil eye and unseen hostility. Devotees approach her when the trouble has no visible face, and ask only to be covered by her.

In this homa that grace is invoked through fire, with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

The Pratyangira Devi Homa, also called the Pratyangira Devi Homam, is a Vedic fire ritual offered to Pratyangira Devi, the lion-faced protective form of the Divine Mother, for protection from the evil eye, black magic, psychic harm and hostile intent. Ghee, herbs and prescribed offerings are given into the fire with mantra, and the sankalpa is taken in your name. Its significance lies in her nature as the reverser: what has been sent against you is turned back to its source, and you are left covered. Our priests perform it at our Yagna Ashram in Pollachi, Coimbatore District, telecast live to you.
Pratyangira Devi is the Mother in her lion-faced, night-dark form, worshipped as Atharvana Bhadrakali. The Puranas describe her as arising to absorb the fury of Sharabha and Narasimha, and the Atharvanic tradition invokes her as the guardian who neutralises abhichara. Her name means she who turns back: what is sent against her devotee is returned to where it began. She is fierce to what threatens her devotee and utterly gentle to the devotee, and it is to her that the offerings of this homa are made.
Devotees offer this homa to Pratyangira Devi as a shield against drishti and envious attention on a house, a child or a new venture, and for the reversal of abhichara, sending hostile mantra, black magic and deliberate ill-working back to where it began. It is also sought by those who feel watched, drained or unsettled at night without cause, for the protection of the whole family and its threshold, for steadiness where opposition, litigation or enmity presses on work and peace, and to clear a heavy atmosphere in a house or workplace. It is offered as prayer, alongside medical care and your legal counsel, never in place of either.
Anyone who senses negative energy around their house, work or children may book this homa, as may those facing persistent, unexplained obstruction or hostility, and families advised by an astrologer to seek a protective remedy. It is often booked for the whole household rather than one person alone. The homa itself is performed only by our priests trained in her upasana, never by the devotee, and you watch the live telecast wherever you are. It is a private ceremony for you and up to four family members, never combined with another booking.
The priests begin by purifying the space, then perform Ganapati puja and punyahavachana and declare the sankalpa in your name, gotra and nakshatra. After kalasha sthapana, Pratyangira Devi is invoked and Agni is kindled in the kunda. The ahutis follow with mantra: ghee, red flowers, dry coconut, black sesame, mustard, and the herbal samagri and dravya prescribed for her worship, every priest making their own offerings in the one ceremony. The rite closes with purnahuti, deeparadhana and prayers for your family, and you watch it all on the live telecast.
You can book the Pratyangira Devi Homa with five or ten priests. Each package is the complete homa, with the same ritual stages and the same kinds of offerings, performed privately for you and up to four family members and never combined with another booking. What changes is the number of priests: every priest makes their own ahutis, the offerings into the fire, and all of them perform at the same time, in one ceremony. An ahuti count is a count of these offerings, not a japa count, which measures repetitions of a mantra. Each priest makes 216 ahutis: 1,080 in all with five priests and 2,160 with ten, in approximately 2 hours. A larger package adds priests and offerings, not a second ceremony. Choose the scale that fits your intention, preference and budget; the five-priest homa is complete in itself, and no package guarantees a particular result.
Yes. Our listed Pratyangira Devi Homa packages specify standard ahuti counts and priest numbers. If your astrologer has prescribed a different count, we can arrange a customised homa following review by our priests. Please share your requirements with our Devotee Relationship Team on +91 96295 55442. The team will confirm the ahuti count, number of priests, approximate duration and total price before you book. Your customised homa remains a private ceremony dedicated to your sankalpa, never combined with other customers' bookings.
Approximately two hours, whichever package you choose: the priests perform together and make their offerings at the same time, so ten priests do not lengthen the ceremony. Your muhurta, the date and time, is confirmed by email within 24–48 working hours of booking, and the live telecast link arrives the day before, so you can follow every stage wherever you are.
You do not need to wait for an auspicious day. Whenever you book, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart — a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. If you would prefer one of the days traditionally sacred to Pratyangira Devi — Amavasya and the nights of the waning fortnight, above all the pradosha and midnight hours, Ashlesha or Bharani nakshatra, a Tuesday or Friday, or Rahu kalam on a Tuesday — tell us in the notes at checkout and we will fix the muhurta within it. Our Panchang shows the tithi and nakshatra for any date.
Yes. What directs a homa is its sankalpa: the solemn resolve the priest makes before the fire is kindled, stating who the homa is for and what it is offered for. The deity invoked and the ritual remain the same; the purpose is yours, as your astrologer has advised it. So if you have been advised the Pratyangira Devi Homa for a reason other than those on this page, write that purpose in your own words in the “Your sankalpa” box on the birth-details page, straight after payment, and the priest will state it in the sankalpa with your name, gotra and nakshatra. If the advice also names a date, a number of ahutis or a number of priests, mention it in the notes at checkout, or call our Devotee Relationship Team on +91 96295 55442 before you book.
Book the Pratyangira Devi Homa online on this page, from India or from any other country; devotees living abroad book it the same way, and prices are shown in your currency. Choose five or ten priests, and straight after payment add your name, gotra if you know it and your birth star, with your prayer for the homa in the “Your sankalpa” box. Your muhurta is confirmed by email within 24–48 working hours and the live telecast link arrives the day before, so you can watch the entire homa live, wherever you are. Afterwards, prasadam and your energised Pratyangira Devi Yantra are couriered to you anywhere in the world, free of shipping cost.
Every Pratyangira Devi Homa package includes the energised Pratyangira Devi Yantra: a copper plate of about 1–2 inches, consecrated over three days and present in the fire through your homa. It is then rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet of about 2–4 inches, made to be worn, and couriered to you with your prasadam, free of shipping cost, usually reaching you in 1–2 weeks within India and 2–4 weeks internationally from the homa’s completion; the tracking email gives your personal time to wear it.
Our silver amulets are specially made for everyday wear: copper is added to the silver to make them more durable. With regular use, the amulet may turn black, reddish or brown as it is exposed to heat and reacts with the chemicals in cosmetics. Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cotton cloth, keep perfume and cosmetics away from it, and clean it by rubbing it gently with a pinch of vibhuti (sacred ash). Every six months, polish it with cotton dipped in a silver cleaner, but never soak or dip the amulet itself. Never open it, as the energies of the yantra are sealed inside. If it is ever damaged, send it back to us, not to a jeweller.

Your ritual date is an auspicious muhurta calculated personally for you — not a slot on a rota. Once it is confirmed, rescheduling from the customer's side is not available, and cancellation does not carry a refund. If we ever have to move your ritual for unforeseen reasons at the ashram, we will inform you immediately and provide a fresh auspicious date at no cost — and your telecast, recording, prasadam and yantra remain exactly as promised.
