In Vedic astrology a planetary transit, or gochara, is the movement of a graha through a rashi of the zodiac. Slow-moving planets such as Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu set the longer tone of a year; faster bodies such as Mercury, Venus and Mars colour shorter spells of speech, relationship and effort. The same sky is shared by everyone, yet each chart receives the transit through a different house, dasha and planetary strength.
The year 2025 is marked by several of these slower shifts at once. Saturn continues its path through Pisces, Jupiter enters Gemini in May, and the Rahu–Ketu axis moves into Pisces and Virgo in March. Mercury turns retrograde four times, and Venus spends a long retrograde spell in Leo. Together these movements frame a year in which communication, discipline, imagination and service sit at the centre of classical interpretation.
This guide sets out the main planetary transits of 2025 as the tradition describes them, lists the key dates, and points to the chart tools and rites devotees customarily use when studying a transit year — without treating any placement as a fixed promise of result.
What a planetary transit means in Vedic astrology
A transit is simply a planet’s current position relative to the natal chart. The Sun speaks of vitality and authority, the Moon of mind and feeling, Mercury of speech and calculation, Venus of affection and means, Mars of drive and conflict, Jupiter of dharma and expansion, Saturn of karma, limit and endurance, and Rahu–Ketu of desire, detachment and the nodal axis of growth and release.
When a slow graha changes rashi, the collective mood of that period shifts. Whether the period feels supportive or demanding for any one person depends on the houses the planet rules and occupies in the birth chart, the running Vimshottari dasha, and aspects from other grahas. General forecasts therefore describe the sky; a free birth chart and dasha reading show how that sky lands on a particular life.
Current positions of the outer grahas are tracked on the house’s Jupiter transit, Saturn transit and Rahu–Ketu transit pages, which devotees use alongside the yearly overview below.
Saturn in Pisces: discipline meeting the unseen
Saturn remains in Pisces through 2025 and into 2026. In classical terms Saturn is the karaka of karma, time and structural effort; Pisces is a jala rashi linked with faith, dissolution of hard edges, and the twelfth-house themes of retreat, expense and moksha. The combination is traditionally read as a call to bring order to the inner life — regular sadhana, clear emotional boundaries, and work that serves without theatre.
Charts with strong Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces emphasis, and mutable rashis generally, often feel this transit more sharply in career structure, caregiving load, or the need to separate genuine compassion from self-erasure. Saturn does not decide results on its own; it marks periods in which sustained, honest effort is the method the shastra recommends.

Jupiter into Gemini: expansion through speech and study
On 14 May 2025 Jupiter enters Gemini. Jupiter is the graha of wisdom, dharma, teachers and growth; Gemini is a dual airy rashi of language, trade, short journeys and the restless mind. Tradition associates this placement with a wider field for learning, writing, teaching, media and peer exchange — and also with the risk of scattered attention if curiosity is not given a clear aim.
Where Jupiter aspects or occupies the lagna, fifth, seventh, ninth or tenth houses from the Moon or lagna, classical texts speak of openings in study, counsel, travel for knowledge, and rightful gain through speech. The precise house must be read from the natal chart and the running dasha; the transit alone does not decide the fruit.
Rahu in Pisces and Ketu in Virgo
Around 18 March 2025 the nodal axis shifts: Rahu moves into Pisces and Ketu into Virgo. Rahu amplifies hunger and unconventional paths in the sign it occupies; Ketu loosens attachment and sharpens discriminative insight in its sign. Pisces under Rahu is often read as a surge of imagination, mystical interest and emotional intensity; Virgo under Ketu as a demand for cleaner method, service without display, and less perfectionist anxiety.
The axis asks, in plain terms, whether faith and daily craft are in balance. Households that already work with nodal themes sometimes turn to a Rahu-Ketu Shanti Homa as the shastra-prescribed propitiation when the nodes change sign or afflict key points in the kundli — always after chart review, never as a blanket remedy for every chart.
Mercury and Venus retrogrades in 2025
Mercury turns retrograde four times in 2025. Classical counsel for these windows is review, repair and restrained speech rather than fresh contracts or hurried launches:
- 6–25 January — Capricorn into Sagittarius
- 21 April–15 May — Aries
- 24 August–14 September — Virgo
- 12–31 December — Sagittarius
Venus is retrograde in Leo from 11 July to 5 September 2025. Venus governs affection, arts and resources; a Leo retrograde is traditionally a time to re-examine pride in relationship, creative work left unfinished, and spending that serves image more than need. Past bonds or projects may return for closure; the texts do not treat this as omen of loss, only as a pause for revaluation.
Mars continues its ordinary sign changes roughly every six to eight weeks, supplying drive to whichever rashi it occupies. Conjunctions or hard aspects with Saturn or Rahu are watched for heat in temper and over-effort; the remedy in practice is paced work, not fear.

How tradition suggests working with a transit year
Vedic practice does not ask the devotee to fear a transit. It asks for clear seeing and proportionate response. Common methods kept during major gochara periods include:
- Studying the transit against the lagna and Chandra kundli, and against the running dasha, before acting on any general forecast.
- Steady planetary japa — for example the Shani mantra on Saturdays while Saturn holds a sensitive house — done with correct pronunciation and a settled count.
- Dana aligned with the graha’s significations, offered without bargaining for a result.
- When the chart shows nodal or multi-graha pressure, a Navagraha Homa or a rite from the planetary homa catalogue, performed by the ashram priests and telecast to the family.
General rashi notes for 2025 — growth themes for Gemini lagna and Moon, structural tests for Pisces, communication openings where Jupiter aspects the ninth or tenth, and so on — are starting points only. Two people of the same rashi can meet the year very differently once house lordship and dasha are read. For that reason the house treats yearly gochara as context, and the individual kundli as the map.
