The Ritual and Its Weight
The Avahanthi Homa takes its name from the word that opens its central verse - avahanti, she who brings, she who carries towards. The mantras come from the fourth anuvaka of the Shikshavalli in the Taittiriya Upanishad, a passage recited for generations by students beginning their study. Each line ends in svaha, which means it was never meant only for recitation. It was meant for fire. That is what this homa restores.
In the Vedic view, learning is not stored by effort alone. Medha - retentive intelligence - is invoked, welcomed, seated. A student may read for hours and still find the page slipping away; another sits down and the words stay. The tradition prescribes this rite for the first kind of struggle. Our priests kindle the fire at the Yagna Ashram, take the student's name and nakshatra into the sankalpa, and offer the Avahanthi verses in your place while you watch the flame from wherever you are.
आवहन्ती वितन्वाना । कुर्वाणाचीरमात्मनः । वासांसि मम गावश्च । अन्नपाने च सर्वदा । ततो मे श्रियमावह । लोमशां पशुभिः सह स्वाहा ॥ May the Goddess who brings and spreads abundance grant me without delay clothing, cattle, food and drink always, and bring to me lasting prosperity - this offering is made.Why Devotees Book This
Families bring this homa to us at the start of a school year, before board exams, and when a capable student cannot seem to settle. Here is what the tradition prescribes it for.
Medha - retentive intellect
The core prayer of the rite asks that intelligence be seated in the student, so that what is studied is also held.
Focus that lasts the hour
Offered for the student whose attention scatters after ten minutes at the desk, and for the long sittings that exams demand.
Recall under pressure
The Upanishadic verses are traditionally invoked so that learning already gained surfaces when it is needed, not afterwards.
Steadiness before results
Sought by families through application seasons, entrance tests and interview rounds, when nerves do more damage than gaps in preparation.
Blessing at the start of study
Taken up at the beginning of a course, a new school year, or a competitive exam programme, in the spirit of the ancient student's prayer.
Guru's grace on the learner
The rite honours the teacher-student lineage, and is offered for those preparing under a guru, a coach or a demanding syllabus.

The most auspicious days for an Avahanthi Homa
The Avahanthi Homa can be booked on any day. These occasions are traditionally favoured.
The day of learning itself. Books, pens and instruments are placed before the fire, and study is begun afresh under this rite.
The classical day of Vidyarambham, when a child is first led to letters and older students renew their commitment to study.
Guru's day and these stars are held favourable for knowledge, teaching and the seating of intellect.
Many families schedule the homa a few weeks before boards or entrance tests, so the preparation period itself carries the blessing.
You do not need to wait for one of these days. Whenever you book, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart — a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. If you would like the homa on one of the days above, tell us at checkout and we will fix the muhurta within it.
What you receive
The sealing of the yantra
When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.
Personal sankalpa
Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.
Live telecast
Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request a private, unlisted telecast at checkout.
Free energised yantra, sealed in a silver amulet
Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.
Prasadam, shipped free
Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.
48-Day Anushthan (optional)
Daily temple worship for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches.
A note on sacred tradition
As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum.
Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link visible only to you.
We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.
How to wear your energised yantra
The energised yantra is carefully rolled and sealed inside a sacred silver amulet before shipping. Wearing it is itself a small ritual — and even its timing is set for you personally.
Your auspicious time to wear it
Our astrologer marks the auspicious date and time to wear the yantra according to your birth details — sent to you in the email carrying your shipment's tracking number.
Purify the amulet
Dip the silver amulet in raw milk or Ganga jal for an hour before wearing, then clean with normal water.
Face East or North
Perform the wearing process facing east or north for maximum benefit.
Offer dheep & dhoop
Show lamp and incense to the amulet before wearing it.
Wear it
Around your neck or waist, on a thread or chain.
Keep the energy intact
Repeated offering of dheep and dhoop keeps the energisation alive.
If you prefer not to wear it
Place the amulet at your puja altar, or keep it in your wallet.

Medha Saraswati
She is the goddess of speech and learning, worshipped here in her aspect as Medha — retentive intelligence, the power that receives a lesson and holds it. Iconography shows her seated in white, veena in two hands, palm-leaf manuscript and rosary in the others, a swan and lotus near her feet. The fourth anuvaka of the Shikshavalli names her directly, asking that intelligence be brought and settled in the student, alongside Savitr who impels thought. In the wider pantheon she stands with Brahma as the ordering word behind creation, and the tradition holds her to govern memory, clear speech, concentration and the fruit of study. Students turn to her at the beginning of learning, and again whenever the page will not stay in the mind.
In this homa that grace is invoked through fire, with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.
