The Ritual and Its Weight
The Devi Sukta Homa is built around one of the boldest hymns in the Rigveda. In the tenth mandala, the seer Vak Ambhrini does not praise the Goddess from a distance. She speaks as the Goddess: I move with the Rudras and the Vasus, I hold Mitra and Varuna, I am the one who bends the bow. When these verses are offered into fire with ghee and havis, the rite is not a petition sent upward. It is a remembering that the power addressed outside you is the same power breathing inside you.
This is why the Devi Sukta Homa sits in the Spiritual Growth and Devotion tradition rather than among rites of quick relief. Its fruit is inward: steadiness in sadhana, warmth in bhakti, a quieting of the noise that keeps the mind from its own centre. Devotees turn to it when japa has grown dry, when a new spiritual practice is being begun, or simply when the heart wants to sit at the Mother's feet and be held. Performed at Maha scale, with the full Sukta repeated in ordained counts, it is one of the most complete Devi rites AstroBhava conducts.

Not every fire ritual is performed at the same scale. A Maha Homa is our largest form — more priests, a longer fire, and the complete chanting sequence the rite prescribes rather than an abridged one. This is what that means in practice.
A Maha Homa is never a group ceremony, the same as any homa we conduct. What the scale changes is the weight of the offering — ten trained voices holding one hymn for two hours is a different undertaking from one voice for an hour, and it is reserved for the intentions that warrant it.

The most auspicious days for a Devi Sukta Homa
The Devi Sukta Homa may be offered on any day the Mother is worshipped. These occasions are held especially potent.
The nine nights of Devi are the foremost window for this rite, with Ashtami and Navami counted as the most powerful days to offer the Sukta into fire.
Friday is the Mother's weekday, and Pournami is her fullness. Both are classical days for Devi Sukta Homa.
The eighth and fourth lunar days of either fortnight are prescribed for Shakti upasana and are often chosen for sadhakas beginning a new practice.
These asterisms are traditionally linked to Devi worship and are favoured when the homa is offered for growth in devotion.

The Devi Sukta Yantra is consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. When your homa concludes, it is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which those energies are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. How to wear your energised Devi Sukta Yantra
Your auspicious time to wear it
Wear it for the first time on a Friday, between 6.30 and 7.30 in the morning. Bathe first, place the yantra on your pooja altar and offer your prayers, then wear it around your neck or your waist, on a red or black thread or a silver chain.
At a funeral
Take the yantra off before you attend a funeral.
Purify the amulet
Whenever the yantra has been taken off, or if it was worn at a funeral, dip it in raw milk or Ganga jal, show it incense, dhoop or attar (perfume), and then wear it again.
Keep the energy intact
You may repeat this energising once a week or once a month.

Sankalpa
The priest states your name, gotra and nakshatra — and those of up to four family members — with the intention this homa is performed for.
Ganapati Puja
The customary invocation to Ganapati, clearing obstacles before the deity is approached.
Agni Pratishtha
The fire is consecrated in the homa kunda and Agni invoked as the carrier of every offering that follows.
Devi Avahana
The Devi Sukta is chanted, inviting the deity's presence into the fire — by five or ten priests as your scale sets.
Ahuti
Ghee and akshata, with the flowers, grains and dravyas proper to this deity, are offered in sequence with mantra.
Purnahuti
The final complete offering seals the sankalpa stated at the opening.

Vak Devi
Speech herself is the Goddess here — Vak, the daughter of the seer Ambhrina, who in the tenth mandala of the Rigveda declares her own sovereignty in the first person. She moves with the Rudras and the Vasus, upholds Mitra and Varuna, carries Indra and Agni and the Ashvins, and bends the bow of Rudra against the enemy of the sacred. Later tradition receives her as Adi Parashakti, the one power that takes form as Durga, Saraswati and Lalita, and the Devi Mahatmya opens its own recitation in her voice. She has no fixed weapon or vahana in this hymn; her body is utterance, the word that holds gods and worlds in place. Devotees turn to this form when they wish to know the Mother not above them but as the breath moving in them.
