The Ritual and Its Weight
The Kala Bhairava Homa is a fire rite offered to the guardian form of Shiva who holds the keys to time, direction and threshold. Where other homas ask for increase, this one asks for a boundary. The tradition prescribes it when a household senses hostility it cannot name — the drishti of a jealous glance, the residue of abhichara, a run of days where every door sticks. Ghee, black sesame, mustard and specified samidha are offered into the kunda while the Bhairava mantra is chanted in count, each oblation drawing a line the unwelcome is not meant to cross.
Bhairava is called the Kotwal, the watchman. Kashi is said to be under his charge, and no pilgrim's account is settled there without his leave. That is the weight this rite carries: it is not a plea, it is a report made to the one whose duty is guarding. The most auspicious days for a Kala Bhairava Homa
Bhairava is a deity of the eighth lunar day and the darker hours. These are the occasions our priests hold for the kala bhairava puja.
The Ashtami tithi of the waning fortnight, sacred to Bhairava each month. The kala bhairava ashtami puja benefits are most spoken of here — this is his own day, and the homa is scheduled by preference on it.
His day of manifestation in the month of Margashirsha. Bookings for this date fill early; the rite is performed with an extended mantra count.

Bhairava is invoked in periods other rites avoid. Where the astrologer indicates it, the oblations are timed to these windows under proper sankalpa.

When your homa concludes, it is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which those energies are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. A note on sacred tradition
As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum.
Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and any family members you add, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link, which does not appear on our channel or in search, though anyone who has the link can watch it and share it.
We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.
How to wear your energised Kala Bhairava Yantra
Your auspicious time to wear it
Wear it for the first time on the day named in your dispatch email, between 6.30 and 7.30 in the morning. Bathe first, place the yantra on your pooja altar and offer your prayers, then wear it around your neck or your waist, on a red or black thread or a silver chain.
At a funeral
Take the yantra off before you attend a funeral.
Purify the amulet
Whenever the yantra has been taken off, or if it was worn at a funeral, dip it in raw milk or Ganga jal, show it incense, dhoop or attar (perfume), and then wear it again.
Keep the energy intact
You may repeat this energising once a week or once a month.

Ahuti
Ghee and akshata, with the flowers, grains and dravyas proper to this deity, are offered in sequence with mantra. Each priest makes 108 of these offerings with the mula mantra of Kala Bhairava — 108, 324 or 540 in all, by package.
Purnahuti
The final complete offering seals the sankalpa stated at the opening.

Kala Bhairava
Kala Bhairava is the fierce manifestation of Shiva who embodies kala, time itself, and who stands as appointed guardian of the sacred city of Varanasi. Dark-hued, adorned with crescent moon and garland of skulls, he carries trident, drum, noose and sword while his vehicle is the black dog. In Puranic and Tantric traditions he is the one who severed Brahma’s fifth head and thereafter wandered as the mendicant bearing the kapala until it fell at Kapalamochana in Kashi. As lord of the cremation ground and master of the passage of hours, Kala Bhairava is the deity to whom the city itself is said to belong; every watch of the night falls under his jurisdiction. The name joins kala, the devourer of all created things, with Bhairava, the terrifier who liberates through direct confrontation with mortality and the measure of duration.
