The Ritual and Its Weight
The Mahalakshmi Ashtakam is a hymn of eight verses addressed to Mahalakshmi, the Mother who holds conch, discus and mace, and who is worshipped by the devas themselves. Devotees have carried these verses for centuries as a daily prayer. In the homa, the same eight verses are not merely read — they are offered. Each verse is sealed with ghee into a consecrated fire, so that sound, flame and intention move together.
Wealth in the Vedic view is not a heap of coins. It is flow — income that arrives on time, debts that close, a home where the lamp is lit and the kitchen is never empty. The Ashtakam asks precisely for this: not excess, but sthiti, steadiness. Not every fire ritual is performed at the same scale. A Maha Homa is our largest form — more priests, a longer fire, and the complete chanting sequence the rite prescribes rather than an abridged one. This is what that means in practice.
A Maha Homa is never a group ceremony, the same as any homa we conduct. What the scale changes is the weight of the offering — ten trained voices holding one hymn for two hours is a different undertaking from one voice for an hour, and it is reserved for the intentions that warrant it.

The most auspicious days for a Mahalakshmi Ashtakam
Mahalakshmi is honoured on Friday above all other days. These occasions are traditionally chosen for the Ashtakam homa.
Shukra's own day, held as the most fitting for any Lakshmi rite. Morning hours during Shukra hora are preferred.
Lakshmi Puja night at Diwali, and the full moon of Sharad, when the Mother is invited into the home and the lamps are kept burning.
Days set aside for wealth that does not diminish, and for the vow householders take for family welfare.
Stars associated with abundance, sustenance and Shukra's grace; often paired with a Friday for the muhurat.

The Mahalakshmi Yantra is consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. When your homa concludes, it is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which those energies are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

How to wear your energised Mahalakshmi Yantra
Your auspicious time to wear it
Wear it for the first time on a Friday, between 6.30 and 7.30 in the morning. Bathe first, place the yantra on your pooja altar and offer your prayers, then wear it around your neck or your waist, on a red or black thread or a silver chain.
At a funeral
Take the yantra off before you attend a funeral.
Purify the amulet
Whenever the yantra has been taken off, or if it was worn at a funeral, dip it in raw milk or Ganga jal, show it incense, dhoop or attar (perfume), and then wear it again.
Keep the energy intact
You may repeat this energising once a week or once a month.

Sankalpa
The priest states your name, gotra and nakshatra — and those of up to four family members — with the intention this homa is performed for.
Ganapati Puja
The customary invocation to Ganapati, clearing obstacles before the deity is approached.
Agni Pratishtha
The fire is consecrated in the homa kunda and Agni invoked as the carrier of every offering that follows.
Mahalakshmi Avahana
The Mahalakshmi Ashtakam is chanted, inviting the deity's presence into the fire — by five priests.
Ahuti
Ghee and akshata, with the flowers, grains and dravyas proper to this deity, are offered in sequence with mantra. Each of the 5 priests makes 432 of these offerings, one at every verse of the Mahalakshmi Ashtakam — 2,160 in all.
Purnahuti
The final complete offering seals the sankalpa stated at the opening.

Mahalakshmi
The Mahalakshmi Ashtakam is eight short couplets of praise to Mahalakshmi, the consort of Vishnu, followed by three verses that state what reciting it brings. The couplets are in the eight-syllable anushtubh metre, and all eight close on the same refrain, mahalakshmi namo'stu te, 'O Mahalakshmi, salutations to you'. The heading printed above verse 1 is indra uvacha, 'Indra said', and its closing colophon calls it the hymn to Sri Mahalakshmi made by Indra. The sequence moves from her appearance to her nature. Verse 1 seats her on the sri-pitha holding conch, discus and mace, Vishnu's own emblems; verse 2 puts her on Garuda as the terror of the demon Kolasura. Verses 3 and 4 list what she grants, from knowledge to both worldly enjoyment and liberation. Verses 5 to 7 turn to philosophy: without beginning or end, the primal shakti, gross, subtle and fierce at once, one with the supreme Brahman. Verse 8 returns to her figure, dressed in white.
