The Ritual and Its Weight

Shravana is the twenty-second nakshatra, the three footprints of Vishnu strung across the sky. Its name means hearing. Those born under it are said to receive the world through the ear — through counsel, study, scripture, the spoken word. The Shravana Nakshatra Homa is the fire rite that honours this star and the deity who presides over it, offered on the day your birth star returns each lunar month, or at the turn of your solar year.

In the Vedic reckoning, the nakshatra you were born under carries the tone of your life the way a tuning fork carries a note. When that note is struck cleanly, the days sit easier. The shravana nakshatra homam is performed to keep that tone clear — priests recite the Shravana suktam and the mantras of Vishnu, feed the fire with ghee, samidha and grains, and place your name, star and gotra into every offering. It is not a remedy for something broken. It is maintenance of something living.

ॐ नमो नारायणाय Salutations to Narayana, the one who dwells in all beings and in whom all beings rest.

Why Devotees Book This

Devotees born under Shravana, or whose children are, turn to this homa for these reasons.

Alignment with your birth star

The homa is offered on your nakshatra day, tying the rite directly to the star under which you drew your first breath.

Vishnu's protection

Shravana's presiding deity is Vishnu, the preserver. The tradition prescribes this rite to invoke his sustaining shelter over the household.

Clarity in learning and counsel

Shravana rules the ear. Students, teachers, scholars and those who live by advice offer this homa for clear hearing and clear speech.

Steady prosperity

Sustenance rather than sudden gain — the fire is fed for growth that holds, in livelihood, in savings, in reputation.

Smoothing the nakshatra's dasha and transits

When Moon's Shravana period runs, or Saturn and the Moon cross the star, this homa is traditionally performed to soften the passage.

A rite for children and newborns

Parents book the shravana nakshatra homa for a child born under this star, as an early offering for long life and good learning.

Sacred timing

The most auspicious days for a Shravana Nakshatra Homa

The homa is strongest when the sky returns to the star it honours.

The Shravana day each month

When the Moon transits Shravana — once every lunar month — the star is live. This is the natural day for the rite.

Your nakshatra birthday

The Shravana day nearest your solar birthday, or in your birth month, marks the completion of a personal year and is much favoured.

Shravana month and Onam

The Shravana nakshatra in the month of Shravana, and the Onam day sacred to Vishnu, are held in high regard for this homa.

Ekadashi and Vishnu days

Ekadashi, Thursdays and Dwadashi tithis suit any rite addressed to Vishnu, and are chosen when the Shravana day is unavailable.

You do not need to wait for one of these days. Whenever you book, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart — a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. If you would like the homa on one of the days above, tell us at checkout and we will fix the muhurta within it.

What you receive

The sealing of the Shravana Nakshatra Yantra

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request an unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Shravana Nakshatra Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

Yantra Pujas inside our consecrated sanctum

48-Day Anushthan (optional) — daily pujas for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches. Performed in our consecrated sanctum at the Yagna Ashram.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link, which does not appear on our channel or in search, though anyone who has the link can watch it and share it.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

After it arrives

How to wear your energised Shravana Nakshatra Yantra

Our astrologer marks the auspicious date and time to wear the yantra according to your birth details — sent to you in the email carrying your shipment's tracking number.

Dip the silver amulet in raw milk or Ganga jal for an hour before wearing, then clean with normal water.

03

Face East or North

Perform the wearing process facing east or north for maximum benefit.

Show lamp and incense to the amulet before wearing it.

Who is invoked

Vishnu

Lord of the three strides that measure earth, sky and the space beyond, Vishnu presides over Shravana, whose three stars the tradition reads as his footprints. He is the preserver, dark as rain cloud, four-armed, holding conch, discus, mace and lotus, resting on the serpent Ananta upon the ocean of milk, with Lakshmi at his feet. The conch he sounds is a sound heard rather than seen, which is why this star of hearing belongs to him. Scripture places him among the Adityas in the Rig Veda and at the centre of the Vishnu Sahasranama, where his thousand names are themselves meant to be recited and listened to. Devotees turn to him for protection, for steadiness through change, and for the clarity that comes of good counsel received and kept.

In this homa that grace is invoked through fire, with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

It is a Vedic fire ritual dedicated to Shravana, the twenty-second nakshatra, whose presiding deity is Vishnu. Shravana means hearing, and the star is identified with the three strides of Vishnu across the heavens. The homa is performed for a person born under this star to keep them in tune with it. Priests offer ghee, samidha and grains into the consecrated fire while chanting the Shravana mantras and the names of Vishnu, with the devotee's name, star and gotra placed in each offering. The tradition prescribes it for protection, clear understanding and steady prosperity.
The shravana nakshatra homam is traditionally undertaken to align you with your birth star, to invoke Vishnu's sustaining protection over your household, and to support clarity in study, counsel and speech — the domains Shravana governs. It is also offered for steady livelihood, for smoothing the Moon's Shravana dasha or difficult transits over the star, and as a rite of blessing for children born under Shravana. The rite is an offering, not a guarantee; what is promised is the sincerity and correctness of the ritual, performed on your behalf.
Anyone whose janma nakshatra is Shravana. Parents commonly book it for a child born under the star. It is also taken up when the Moon's dasha or bhukti of Shravana begins, when Saturn or the Moon transits the star, or simply each year on the nakshatra birthday as a continuing practice. You do not perform it yourself — qualified priests at our Yagna Ashram perform it in your name, and you watch the live telecast from wherever you are.
The finest time is the day each lunar month when the Moon transits Shravana. Beyond that, the Shravana day nearest your birthday, the Shravana nakshatra falling in the month of Shravana, Onam, Ekadashi and Thursdays are all favoured for a rite addressed to Vishnu. Morning hours during the shukla paksha are preferred. Share your birth date, time and place at booking and our priests will fix the muhurat and confirm the date with you.
The priests begin with achamana, sankalpa in your name and gotra, and Ganapati puja to clear obstacles. Punyahavachanam and kalasha sthapana follow. Agni is invoked in the kunda and consecrated. Then comes the main offering — the Shravana suktam and Vishnu mantras chanted with ahutis of cow ghee, palasha samidha, havis rice, sesame, barley, navadhanya, honey and dry fruits, in the count fixed for the rite. Purnahuti closes the fire, followed by aarti and prayers for your protection and wellbeing. An energised Shravana Nakshatra Yantra and prasadam from the fire are then couriered to you.
Book online from any country on this page. Enter your name, birth star, gotra and the names of family members to be included in the sankalpa. Our team confirms the muhurat and sends you the live telecast link, so you can witness the entire homa as it is performed at our Yagna Ashram. Afterwards the prasadam and the energised Shravana Nakshatra Yantra are couriered to your address worldwide, free of shipping cost. You do not need to travel or attend in person.
