The Ritual and Its Weight

The Vidya Lakshmi Homa is a fire offering to the form of Lakshmi who presides over learning. In the Ashtalakshmi tradition, wealth is counted in eight ways, and vidya — knowledge that stays with you and works for you — is one of them. This homa treats study the way the tradition treats prosperity: as something to be invoked, tended and kept. Ghee, samidha and grains go into the fire while the priest speaks your name, your birth star and your purpose — a course to complete, an examination to face, a mind that keeps wandering off the page.

Students book the vidya lakshmi homam at the turn of an academic year, before board and competitive examinations, and when years of effort come down to a single result day. The rite is not a substitute for the hours at the desk. It is the tradition's way of asking that those hours hold — that what you read stays read, that anxiety loosens its grip, and that the fire of learning in you is fed rather than left to smoulder.

ॐ श्रीं ह्रीं क्लीं विद्यालक्ष्म्यै नमः Salutations to Vidya Lakshmi, the goddess of the wealth of knowledge — may learning, clarity and understanding come to rest in me.

Why Devotees Book This

What the tradition prescribes the Vidya Lakshmi Homa for, in the words of the students and parents who request it.

Concentration that holds

Offered for a mind that settles into study instead of drifting after a few minutes at the desk.

Memory and recall

Invoked so that what is learnt is retained, and comes back when the question paper is in front of you.

Steadiness before examinations

Sought by candidates facing boards, entrance tests and competitive examinations, for composure on the day.

Clarity in difficult subjects

Requested when one subject refuses to open up — mathematics, a language, a professional paper attempted again.

A student's confidence

Prayed for on behalf of children who know the material but freeze in the hall or lose heart mid-course.

Blessing on a new course

Performed at admission, at the start of an academic year, or when beginning research or higher study abroad.

Sacred timing

The most auspicious days for a Vidya Lakshmi Homa

The Vidya Lakshmi Homa is traditionally set on days that favour learning and the goddess of knowledge.

Vasant Panchami

The classic day for learning rites, when children are given their first letters and books are placed before the goddess.

Fridays and Sukla Paksha

Friday belongs to Lakshmi, and the waxing fortnight suits rites of growth and increase — a favoured pairing for this homa.

Hasta, Rohini and Shravana nakshatras

Stars associated with skill, retention and attentive listening, often chosen for vidya-related offerings.

Before the examination season

Many families book in the weeks leading up to boards, entrance tests or a viva, and again at the start of an academic year.

You do not need to wait for one of these days. Whenever you book, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart — a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. If you would like the homa on one of the days above, tell us at checkout and we will fix the muhurta within it.

What you receive

The sealing of the Vidya Lakshmi Yantra

When your homa concludes, the yantra that stood in the fire is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which the energies raised in a ritual are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

Personal sankalpa

Your name, gotra & nakshatra — for you and up to five family members.

Live telecast

Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request an unlisted telecast at checkout.

Free energised Vidya Lakshmi Yantra, sealed in a silver amulet

Consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. Immediately afterwards it is rolled and sealed inside a silver amulet by Agamic rite, locking those energies within, and shipped to you with your prasadam.

Prasadam, shipped free

Sacred vibhuti, sandalwood powder & kumkum from your fire — delivered to any country.

Yantra Pujas inside our consecrated sanctum

48-Day Anushthan (optional) — daily pujas for 48 days — the 27 Nakshatras + 12 Rashis + 9 Planets — then sealed in a silver amulet of approximately 2–4 inches. Performed in our consecrated sanctum at the Yagna Ashram.

A note on sacred tradition

As per strict Agama vidhi, no videography is permitted inside the temple sanctum — this preserves the pure sacred energies and undisturbed divine focus of the ritual. The main homa is respectfully telecast live from outside the sanctum.

Homas are telecast openly on our YouTube channel so that devotees everywhere may witness the rituals — and because we believe you should be able to see our work before you trust us with yours. Your sankalpa names you and your family, so if you would rather your ceremony were not public, choose the private telecast option at checkout and it is streamed as an unlisted link, which does not appear on our channel or in search, though anyone who has the link can watch it and share it.

We state this plainly — transparency about what tradition forbids filming, and about what is public, is part of performing these rituals honestly.

After it arrives

How to wear your energised Vidya Lakshmi Yantra

The energised yantra is carefully rolled and sealed inside a sacred silver amulet before shipping. Wearing it is itself a small ritual.

01

Your auspicious time to wear it

Wear it for the first time on a Friday, between 6.30 and 7.30 in the morning. Bathe first, place the yantra on your pooja altar and offer your prayers, then wear it around your neck or your waist, on a red or black thread or a silver chain.

02

At a funeral

Take the yantra off before you attend a funeral.

03

Purify the amulet

Whenever the yantra has been taken off, or if it was worn at a funeral, dip it in raw milk or Ganga jal, show it incense, dhoop or attar (perfume), and then wear it again.

04

Keep the energy intact

You may repeat this energising once a week or once a month.

Who is invoked

Vidya Lakshmi

Among the eight forms in which Lakshmi is counted in the Ashtalakshmi tradition, this one holds knowledge as the wealth that cannot be spent or stolen. She is shown seated on a lotus, four-armed, often with palm-leaf manuscript and lotuses, her remaining hands in the gestures of giving and of assurance. Her domain is vidya in its widest sense — study that is retained, understanding that ripens into skill, and the discipline that carries a student through long hours. Devotees approach her where Saraswati is approached for the art itself; here learning is treated as a household treasure, invoked and then tended so it stays. Students, teachers and parents turn to her at the start of a course of study and through the seasons of examination.

In this homa that grace is invoked through fire, with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.

Questions

Frequently asked

The Vidya Lakshmi Homa is a Vedic fire ritual addressed to Vidya Lakshmi, the form of the goddess who holds the wealth of knowledge. In the Ashtalakshmi tradition, learning is counted as one of the eight riches, and this homa asks that it be granted and retained. Priests kindle the sacred fire, chant the vidya mantras and make offerings of ghee, samidha and grains in the name of the student, seeking clarity of thought, steady attention and success in study.
The tradition prescribes the vidya lakshmi homam for concentration that holds through long study, for memory and recall under examination conditions, for composure on the day of the test, and for clarity in a subject that has been resisting. It is also performed as a blessing at the start of a course, an academic year or a research programme. The rite is an invocation and a discipline, not a guarantee of any particular result.
Students of any age — school children facing boards, candidates preparing for entrance and competitive examinations, university students, and adults returning to study or professional certification. Parents very often book it on a child's behalf, and teachers sponsor it for a whole class. You need only supply the student's name, birth star and gotra if known; the priest performs the sankalpa on that person's behalf.
Vasant Panchami is the most celebrated day for rites of learning. Fridays in the waxing fortnight are widely favoured, as are the nakshatras Hasta, Rohini and Shravana. In practice, most families book in the weeks before an examination season or at the start of an academic year. Share your birth details when you book and our priests will fix a suitable muhurat and confirm the date with you.
The priests begin with achamana, Ganapati puja and the sankalpa, in which your name, birth star and purpose are declared. The kalasha is established and Vidya Lakshmi is invoked. Agni is kindled in the homa kunda, and the vidya mantras are chanted while offerings are made — cow's ghee, palasha and other prescribed samidha, rice, sesame, honey, flowers and fruit. The rite closes with purnahuti, deepa aradhana and the recital of blessings for the student. All samagri is arranged at our Yagna Ashram; you need to send nothing.
Book online from any country. Choose the Vidya Lakshmi Homa on this page, enter the student's name, birth star and gotra if known, and complete the booking. Our team confirms the muhurat, and qualified priests perform the homa at AstroBhava's Yagna Ashram in Pollachi, Coimbatore District on your behalf — you do not need to travel or attend. The ritual is telecast live to you wherever you are, and prasadam along with an energised Vidya Lakshmi Yantra is couriered to your address, free of shipping cost.
Our silver amulets are specially made for everyday wear: copper is added to the silver to make them more durable. With regular use, the amulet may turn black, reddish or brown as it is exposed to heat and reacts with the chemicals in cosmetics. Wipe it regularly with a soft, dry cotton cloth, keep perfume and cosmetics away from it, and clean it by rubbing it gently with a pinch of vibhuti (sacred ash). Every six months, polish it with cotton dipped in a silver cleaner, but never soak or dip the amulet itself. Never open it, as the energies of the yantra are sealed inside. If it is ever damaged, send it back to us, not to a jeweller.
