Ganapati Puja
The customary invocation to Ganapati, clearing obstacles before the deity is approached.
Agni Pratishtha
The fire is consecrated in the homa kunda and Agni invoked as the carrier of every offering that follows.
Yamaraja Avahana
The mula mantra of Yamaraja is chanted, inviting the deity's presence into the fire — by one, three or five priests as your package sets.
Ahuti
Ghee and akshata, with the flowers, grains and dravyas proper to this deity, are offered in sequence with mantra. Each priest makes 108 of these offerings with the mula mantra of Yamaraja — 108, 324 or 540 in all, by package.
Purnahuti
The final complete offering seals the sankalpa stated at the opening.

Yamaraja
Son of Surya and brother of Yamuna, he stands in the Vedic order as Dharmaraja, the first mortal to walk the path of death and so its appointed guardian. Iconography shows him dark of form, seated on a buffalo, a noose in one hand and the rod of danda in the other, with Chitragupta beside him keeping the record of every deed. The Rig Veda and the Katha Upanishad both give him voice, and in the latter he teaches Nachiketa the nature of the Self. Devotees turn to him not in fear but as the one who governs measured time, righteous conduct, and the allotted span of a life. He is honoured for restraint, for justice, and for the discipline that steadies a household.
