A seva is service. Where an archana counts names and a homa offers through fire, a seva attends the deity: the Devi is invited, given a place, given light, given fragrance, given food, and finally given the harathi that closes the evening. It is the oldest shape worship takes, and Bhagavathi — the Divine Mother in her fierce and compassionate aspect — is its subject here.
The kalasha is the centre of the rite. A pot is consecrated with mantra and water and the Devi is invoked into it; everything that follows is offered there.
Like every aradhana we perform, it takes place in the open ritual space of our own Yagna Ashram, never inside a temple sanctum, and every moment of it is telecast live.
