The Ritual and Its Weight
Pitru Dosha is read in the horoscope when the Sun, Rahu, Ketu or Saturn press upon the ninth house or the karaka of the fathers. The tradition understands it as an unfinished obligation — rites left unperformed, a lineage whose offerings thinned across generations. It is not a punishment. It is a debt, and debts in Vedic thought are settled with fire, water and remembrance.
The Pitra Dosha Nivaran Homa is that settlement. Tarpana is offered, the Pitru Devatas are invoked by name and gotra, and the sacred fire carries cooked rice, sesame and ghee to the ancestral realm. Alongside it, the planets holding the affliction receive their own oblations, so the chart is addressed as a whole. This is why the pitru dosha nivarana homam is placed in the Maha tier — it is long, it is exacting, and it is performed for a line of people, not one.
ॐ पितृभ्यः स्वधायिभ्यः स्वधा नमः। ॐ पितृगणाय विद्महे जगद्धारिणे धीमहि। तन्नो पितरः प्रचोदयात्॥ Reverence and the sacred offering to the ancestors who receive svadha; we contemplate the host of forefathers who uphold the world, and may those ancestors guide and awaken us.What a Maha Homa is
Not every fire ritual is performed at the same scale. A Maha Homa is our largest form — more priests, a longer fire, and the complete chanting sequence the rite prescribes rather than an abridged one. This is what that means in practice.
A Maha Homa is never a group ceremony, the same as any homa we conduct. What the scale changes is the weight of the offering — ten trained voices holding one hymn for two hours is a different undertaking from one voice for an hour, and it is reserved for the intentions that warrant it.
Why Devotees Book This
Devotees turn to the Pitra Dosha Nivaran Homa when the horoscope shows ancestral affliction and life seems to repeat a pattern nobody chose.
Addresses Pitru Dosha in the chart
The rite is prescribed where Rahu, Ketu, Saturn or the Sun afflict the ninth house or the significator of the fathers.
Offers tarpana to the lineage
Water, sesame and cooked offerings are made in your gotra and your ancestors' names, as the shastras direct.
Steadies the malefic grahas
Oblations are made to the specific planets carrying the dosha, so the chart is worked on as one whole and not in pieces.
Sought before family milestones
Families book it ahead of marriage, conception, a house-warming or a new venture, when the blessing of the elders is asked for first.
For obstacles that repeat down a line
Where the same difficulty seems to visit generation after generation, tradition prescribes ancestral propitiation before anything else.
Completes rites that were missed
Where shraddha or tarpana went unperformed over the years, this homa is offered as the remembrance the family owed.

The most auspicious days for a Pitra Dosha Nivaran Homa
Ancestral rites follow the dark half of the lunar month and the hours sacred to the forefathers.
The new moon is the classical day of the Pitru Devatas. Mahalaya Amavasya and Thai Amavasya are held especially potent.
The fortnight of the ancestors in Bhadrapada is the most prescribed window of the year for the pitru dosha nivarana homam.
The afternoon watch is the hour when the ancestors are said to receive offerings. Ancestral rites are timed to it.
Both stars are linked to Yama and the forefathers, and are chosen when Amavasya is not near.
You do not need to wait for one of these days. Whenever you book, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart — a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. If you would like the homa on one of the days above, tell us at checkout and we will fix the muhurta within it.
What you receive
The sealing of the Pitru Devatas Yantra
The Pitru Devatas Yantra is consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. When your homa concludes, it is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which those energies are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.
This is what arrives at your door, at no extra cost, with your prasadam.
Personal sankalpa
Your name, gotra & nakshatra — and up to four family members if you wish. No one else is named.
Live telecast
Watch your own homa in real time from the ashram. Streamed openly on our YouTube channel by default — or request an unlisted telecast at checkout.

How to wear your energised Pitru Devatas Yantra
Your auspicious time to wear it
Wear it for the first time on the day named in your dispatch email, between 6.30 and 7.30 in the morning. Bathe first, place the yantra on your pooja altar and offer your prayers, then wear it around your neck or your waist, on a red or black thread or a silver chain.
At a funeral
Take the yantra off before you attend a funeral.
Purify the amulet
Whenever the yantra has been taken off, or if it was worn at a funeral, dip it in raw milk or Ganga jal, show it incense, dhoop or attar (perfume), and then wear it again.
Keep the energy intact
You may repeat this energising once a week or once a month.
How your Pitra Dosha Nivaran Homa is performed
Sankalpa
The priest states your name, gotra and nakshatra — and those of up to four family members — with the intention this homa is performed for.
Ganapati Puja
The customary invocation to Ganapati, clearing obstacles before the deity is approached.
Agni Pratishtha
The fire is consecrated in the homa kunda and Agni invoked as the carrier of every offering that follows.
Pitru Devatas Avahana
The mula mantras of the Pitru Devatas are chanted, inviting the deity's presence into the fire — by five or ten priests as your scale sets.
Ahuti
Ghee and akshata, with the flowers, grains and dravyas proper to this deity, are offered in sequence with mantra. Each priest makes 216 of these offerings with the mula mantras of the Pitru Devatas — 1,080 or 2,160 in all, by package.
Purnahuti
The final complete offering seals the sankalpa stated at the opening.
Aarti & Dispatch
Aarti is performed live on your telecast. Vibhuti, sandalwood powder, kumkum and your energised Pitru Devatas Yantra are then packed and shipped free to your door.
The Pitru Devatas
The forefathers of a family, once departed, are held in the tradition to take a subtle body and dwell in Pitruloka, the realm of the ancestors governed by Yama and by Aryaman, whom the Rig Veda names the lord of the fathers. They are not ghosts and not gods of the heavens; they are the line itself, standing behind a living person as the ninth house stands behind a chart. Scripture counts the debt to them among the three debts a householder is born with, settled through tarpana of water and sesame, through pinda of cooked rice, and through fire that carries ghee to them. They are invoked by name and by gotra, three generations at a time. Devotees turn to them with remembrance, asking their blessing on the descendants who remain.
In this homa that grace is invoked through fire, with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.
