What a Bhagavathi Seva is
A seva is service. Where an archana counts names and a homa offers through fire, a seva attends the deity: the Devi is invited, given a place, given light, given fragrance, given food, and finally given the harathi that closes the evening. It is the oldest shape worship takes, and Bhagavathi — the Divine Mother in her fierce and compassionate aspect — is its subject here.
The kalasha is the centre of the rite. A pot is consecrated with mantra and water and the Devi is invoked into it as her abode for the duration of the seva; everything that follows is offered there. The lamp is lit, the kumkum archana made name by name, flowers offered in pushpanjali, sattvic food placed before her, and the mangala harathi raised at the close.
Like every aradhana we perform, it takes place in the open ritual space of our own Yagna Ashram — never inside a temple sanctum, where Agama vidhi permits no filming — and is telecast live so you witness every moment. Your name, date and place of birth — gotra if you know it, Kashyapa by tradition if you don’t. You may include up to five family members in the sankalpa.
