What a Sathyanarayana Puja is

Sathyanarayana is Vishnu as satya — truth — and the puja that carries his name is the one the tradition attaches to a vow. It is performed when something has been promised and the promise has come due; when a thing hoped for has arrived and thanks are owed; and at the openings of things, a house, a marriage, a business, where a household wants the beginning placed under his protection.

It is the most widely performed puja in the Vaishnava household calendar, and it is deliberately not an elaborate rite. The deity is invited, bathed with the five auspicious substances, adorned, offered food, and given the camphor aarti that closes the worship. One priest performs it, and it runs about an hour.

Like every aradhana we perform, it takes place in the open ritual space of our own Yagna Ashram — never inside a temple sanctum, where Agama vidhi permits no filming — and is telecast live so you witness every moment. If you are unsure whether this is the rite your situation calls for, ask Nirnaya or book a consultation before you book the ritual.

Why it is performed

What devotees seek from the Sathyanarayana Puja

It is the puja of vows kept and beginnings placed under protection — the most widely performed rite in the Vaishnava household calendar, and the least elaborate.

A vow fulfilled

The rite’s first purpose: a promise made to the deity and now discharged.

Thanksgiving

For a thing hoped for that has arrived — the puja is as often gratitude as it is request.

New beginnings

A house entered, a marriage, a business opened — the beginning placed under his protection.

Prosperity & stability

For wealth that holds rather than wealth that arrives; the rite is prescribed for steadiness.

Family harmony

It is a household puja by tradition, performed for the household rather than the individual.

Peace of mind

For minds under weight — a quiet rite, and that is part of its prescription.

Is the Sathyanarayana Puja the right rite for you?

It is a serious undertaking, and it is not the prescription for every situation. Describe your circumstance to Nirnaya, our free ritual guide — or book a consultation with our astrologers, who will read your chart before you commit to a rite.

Questions

Before you book

Yes. The sankalpa names you — and, if you wish, up to five family members — and no one else. We do not combine devotees into a shared rite, at any price, ever.
About an hour, performed by one priest at your muhurta. It is deliberately not an elaborate rite — the Sathyanarayana Puja is the household observance of the Vaishnava calendar, and its force is in the vow it discharges rather than in its length.
When a vow has come due, when thanks are owed, and at beginnings — a house entered, a marriage, a business opened. It is also performed on Purnima and on Ekadashi by households that keep it as a regular observance.
Prasadam from your puja, shipped free to any country. The price shown is all-inclusive — the priest, the materials, the telecast and the delivery. Nothing is added at checkout.
Your muhurta is confirmed by email within 24–48 working hours of receiving your birth details.
The rite is performed in full at its appointed muhurta whether you are watching or not — its completeness does not depend on your presence. A recording is made available to you afterwards, so nothing is lost to a timezone.
The rite is performed in full, in your name, by priests at our consecrated ashram — that is identical whether you stand in the hall or watch from another continent. What tradition asks is that the sankalpa names you correctly and the rite is conducted according to vidhi. Both are so. Your presence is not among the requirements the scriptures set.
