The Ritual and Its Weight
The Navadurga, or Nav Durga, are the nine forms in which Goddess Durga is worshipped, one on each night of Navaratri: Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidatri. The Devi Kavacha of the Markandeya Purana names them in this order. Together they trace the whole path of the Mother, from the daughter of the mountain to the giver of every siddhi. The Navadurga Homa invokes all nine into one fire, which is why it sits in the Maha tier. It is not one deity honoured on one day; it is the full Navaratri offered in a single ceremony.
Nine priests perform the homa together over about six hours, one for each form of the Mother. Each form is invoked with her own dhyana shloka and mantra and offered her prescribed dravya, so that no face of Durga is left out. The merit is dedicated in the sankalpa taken in your name and nakshatra. Devotees who cannot keep all nine nights of Navaratri, or who want every form of Durga honoured at once, book this homa so that the whole cycle is completed on their behalf.
First is Shailaputri, second Brahmacharini, third Chandraghanta and fourth Kushmanda; fifth Skandamata, sixth Katyayani, seventh Kalaratri and eighth Mahagauri; ninth is Siddhidatri. These are proclaimed the nine Durgas. (Devi Kavacha)What a Maha Homa is
Not every fire ritual is performed at the same scale. A Maha Homa is our largest form — more priests, a longer fire, and the complete chanting sequence the rite prescribes rather than an abridged one. This is what that means in practice.
A Maha Homa is never a group ceremony, the same as any homa we conduct. What the scale changes is the weight of the offering — ten trained voices holding one hymn for two hours is a different undertaking from one voice for an hour, and it is reserved for the intentions that warrant it.
Why Devotees Book This
Devotees turn to the Navadurga Homa when they want the whole of Durga's grace, not one aspect of it.
Protection on every side
Chandraghanta and Kalaratri are the fierce forms of the nine, invoked by tradition against fear, hostile forces and the evil eye.
Courage and steadiness
Shailaputri and Brahmacharini are honoured for a firm foundation and the discipline to keep going when life is hard.
Health and vitality
Kushmanda, who is said to have created the universe with her smile, is invoked for strength, energy and wellbeing.
Family, children and marriage
Skandamata is honoured for children and the family, and Katyayani is the form traditionally prayed to for a good marriage.
Clearing past burdens
Mahagauri, the radiant white form, is invoked to wash away old difficulties and bring peace to the mind.
Fulfilment of prayers
Siddhidatri, the ninth form, is the giver of siddhi, honoured so that sincere efforts and prayers reach completion.

One rite, one price
There is nothing to choose. Unlike most of our homas, the Navadurga Homa is not offered at several priest counts. It is performed one way, as the rite requires — 9 priests, 6 hours — with the free energised Navadurga Yantra sealed in its silver amulet, the live telecast, and free worldwide delivery of your prasadam all included in the one price.
9,720 ahutis in all. Each of the 9 priests makes 1,080 ahutis with the mula mantras of the nine forms of Durga, and all of them perform at the same time, in one ceremony.
Has your astrologer prescribed a different number of ahutis? Our priests can review it and arrange a customised homa. Call our Devotee Relationship Team on +91 96295 55442 — they confirm the count, the priests, the approximate duration and the total price before you book.

The most auspicious days for a Navadurga Homa
Durga is honoured all year; these windows are traditionally favoured for the Navadurga Homa.
Sharada Navaratri in autumn and Vasanta (Chaitra) Navaratri in spring are the nine nights of the nine Durgas, the classical season for this homa.
The eighth and ninth lunar days, Durga Ashtami and Maha Navami above all, are held as the Mother's own days.
Tuesday is the traditional day of Durga's fierce forms and Friday of the Devi in her gentle forms.
Where there is no urgency, our priests may set the muhurta on your birth star.
You do not need to wait for one of these days. Whenever you book, our astrologers calculate the muhurta from your own birth chart — a date chosen for you personally, which tradition regards as more precise than a calendar date chosen for everyone. If you would like the homa on one of the days above, tell us at checkout and we will fix the muhurta within it.
What you receive
The sealing of the Navadurga Yantra
The Navadurga Yantra is consecrated over three days — Jala (holy-water consecration with mantras), Prana (life force through pranayama & chants) and Jeeva Pratishta (awakened with 108 recitations & offerings) — then present through your homa, receiving the energies raised in the fire. When your homa concludes, it is rolled and locked inside its silver amulet according to Agama vidhi — the practice by which those energies are held within a consecrated object rather than dispersing. It is why a homa performed at our ashram can still reach a devotee ten thousand miles away: what the fire raised travels to you, sealed.

How to wear your energised Navadurga Yantra
Your auspicious time to wear it
Wear it for the first time on the day named in your dispatch email, between 6.30 and 7.30 in the morning. Bathe first, place the yantra on your pooja altar and offer your prayers, then wear it around your neck or your waist, on a red or black thread or a silver chain.
At a funeral
Take the yantra off before you attend a funeral.
Purify the amulet
Whenever the yantra has been taken off, or if it was worn at a funeral, dip it in raw milk or Ganga jal, show it incense, dhoop or attar (perfume), and then wear it again.
Keep the energy intact
You may repeat this energising once a week or once a month.
How your Navadurga Homa is performed
Sankalpa
The priest states your name, gotra and nakshatra — and those of up to four family members — with the intention this homa is performed for.
Ganapati Puja
The customary invocation to Ganapati, clearing obstacles before the deity is approached.
Agni Pratishtha
The fire is consecrated in the homa kunda and Agni invoked as the carrier of every offering that follows.
Navadurga Avahana
The mula mantra of Navadurga is chanted, inviting the deity's presence into the fire — by one, three or five priests as your package sets.
Ahuti
Ghee and akshata, with the flowers, grains and dravyas proper to this deity, are offered in sequence with mantra. Each of the 9 priests makes 1,080 of these offerings with the mula mantras of the nine forms of Durga — 9,720 in all.
Purnahuti
The final complete offering seals the sankalpa stated at the opening.
Aarti & Dispatch
Aarti is performed live on your telecast. Vibhuti, sandalwood powder, kumkum and your energised Navadurga Yantra are then packed and shipped free to your door.
The Navadurga
The Navadurga are the nine forms of Goddess Durga, worshipped one on each night of Navaratri and named in this order in the Devi Kavacha. Shailaputri, daughter of the mountain, rides a bull and holds a trident and a lotus. Brahmacharini walks barefoot with a rosary and a water pot, the Mother as ascetic. Chandraghanta wears a half-moon shaped like a bell and rides a tiger, ready for battle. Kushmanda is said to have brought the universe into being with her smile. Skandamata holds the infant Skanda on her lap. Katyayani, born to the sage Katyayana, is the warrior who slew Mahishasura. Kalaratri is dark as the night and destroys fear itself. Mahagauri is radiant white and calm. Siddhidatri, seated on a lotus, grants every siddhi. Devotees honour the nine together when they seek the whole of the Mother's grace, not one aspect alone.
In this homa that grace is invoked through fire, with your own name and birth details spoken in the sankalpa.
